Buying equipment
Swarthy, if you wanted to wait until October, you could hear tons of stuff at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest in Denver. That said, I'd not be too worried about buying ear unheard online. Lots of us do that. There may be some misses, but that's true ...
Any one compare Dynaudio C1 & Gallo Strada2?
One further thought: if you end up going to the higher end of your price range, do give Vapor a thought. All of their speakers are excellent: the Arcus and Cirrus are very fine, and very different, realizations of monitors.J
Any one compare Dynaudio C1 & Gallo Strada2?
Hi again Ldworet.Yes, obscurity hurts resale. Selah and Fritz both have a pretty good following here and at AC though, though, so it might not be as bad as for some. Both Rick and Fritz are really helpful vendors, too. Selah seems to come up a fai...
Tracy Nelson?
Thanks for the the recommendations and thr story, Casey33! :)Off to the 'Zon!
Any one compare Dynaudio C1 & Gallo Strada2?
Hi. I've auditioned both, lived with neither.Lots of people really like the c1, but I was not sold. The Strada, on the other hand, I quite liked. I expect the c1 goes deeper, but I felt like whatever they did to get thump out of that little box di...
Best Minimalist DAC?
Thanks for all the suggestions! Numerous that I hadn't considered.Any thoughts on the Schitt Gungnir?John
First foray into Class A amp -- recommendations
Fair enough. Skkotb. But I stand by my comment: If you have moderate or lower efficiency speakers, there's considerable risk the Pass 30s won't be showing their best. (Which, I suppose, is part of why Pass sells many more powerful, and expensive! ;...
First foray into Class A amp -- recommendations
I have a Pass INT-30A, and love it. It's ain't going anywhere. But to some extent, I think watts is watts, and 30 ain't a ton (respectfully disagreeing with those who say the effective watts of the Pass 30s are a lot higher). I'd be hesitant about...
Dynaudio, Devore Orangutan, or Harbeth
I agree with those who note these are very different speakers. I don't know the Harbeth, but I was underwhelmed by an audition of the C1, and I really like the Devores (and still somewhat regret not buying the RMAF show samples a couple of years b...
Pass/musical fidelity for focal scala
Just put my hand on my Pass INT-30A, which had been playing at reasonably loud volumes for an hour. Warmest part of casework warm, but I could leave my hand on it for a minute without discomfort. I have heard that class A will affect your electric...
Sjofn the Clue v. Fritz Carbon 7 or other Fritz
Don't know the Clue. Fritzspeakers are excellent, and Fritz is a nice and helpful guy whom you might give a call.Bur Kenrick is right. Your placement constraint is very significant, and you should look at "near wall specific" designs such as North...
Sold speakers you really enjoyed?... But why?
I think we've had this discussion before Shakey! I auditioned the GMA Eos HD, and although I cannot rule out bad dealer set up, I was not remoely tempted. I'd have said "edgy"; since you think the PBNs "plodding," and I hear "natural" and "relaxed...
Sold speakers you really enjoyed?... But why?
PBN Montana EPS2s. Although biggish, these speakers were easy to look at and just lovely to live with. Got out of the way of the music, non-fatiguing, and do very little wrong (at the pricepoint). But, I got bitten by the "Class A" bug in the form...
Floorstanding Speaker Feedback
Selah is a small manufacturer very worth a thought. There is a lovely pair of floorstanders on here now for 3700 that I would be very pleased to own. I don't know the particular design, but the components are excellent, and Selah has been very nic...
The Lawyers Have Taken Over Audio
"Not to sound too lofty," he said, "but every art should have someone who raises the level of the art. With stereos, that's me." All respect, Mr. Schwartz, but you're sounding too lofty.
