Cary SLI 80 crumped
Sorry I meant to say dual pole dual throw. Heck you can buy the part even at Home Depot or Lowes.
Cary SLI 80 crumped
4 months backlog and no time to deal with a single pole dual throw switch?!?!  I really should get my act together and get into business.

Cary amps, especially the ones made in the 1990s, are extremely easy to fix.  Any competent and honest local tech who works on tube gear should be able to fix it in no time.
DAC chips
9038 Pro (not M).  No need to spend crazy money on those so called tweaked and customized 9018.
GaN-based Class D power amps
Technics R1 setup. At their showroom in Osaka.  No Eq, no snake oil cables or funny cups of water.  I was impressed and humbled.
Avalon Acoustics?
Samgar2 If your replacement mid is 1/4” higher then there would be trouble mounting into the cabinet. Note the black goo they use to get the back of the driver to mount flush against the supporting stud inside the cabinet.  If the new mid is indee...
Avalon Acoustics?
Manufacturers End of life drivers a lot of times. And speaker makers have no choice but to source new ones.  Are you talking about the C90-6-079 (vs the old 078) mid or the D20N6-31 tweeter?if they use a 12dB per octave crossover I am certain they...
Avalon Acoustics?
Call me a skeptic but I am hesitant to believe that the drivers are made to spec.  I do see wood spacers and ferrules which I can understand for mounting purposes.  They addressed the leaking goo syndrome that plagued the Eidolons and Ascendants a...
What is the best way to tame a slightly bright speaker?
Concur with MotokoKusanagi.  Simple attenuation of the mid and high is the absolute most straightforward fix.  No snake oil voodoo tweaks.
Technics vs. Focal
Audiotroy seems to be a dealer and I wouldn’t easily assume he hasn’t heard the Focals.  Not sure if he got the chance to compare them side by side though.  To me the Focal Utopia Bes and Electra Bes are never hot.  I can’t say that of the Aria th...
Technics vs. Focal
Just got my pair of SB-C700s this Monday.Decided to buy them because I was wowed every time I go to the Technics showroom in Osaka to listen to the SBR1s. Figure if the affordable sibling can give me a glimpse of the very neutral and detailed soun...
Over and Under Biasing as means for tone control
That’s only a for power tube biasing.  Also won’t work for the likes of 6C33B.
Over and Under Biasing as means for tone control
Harmonics control may I say?if you are talking about power tubes I highly discourage overbiasing to warm upthe sound.  It just gives you supernova and runaway tubes easily. Gain and driver tubes are a different story.  You can get pretty good retu...
Bypass capacitor position?
small difference in the 2 amps....  the Frankenstein uses a "Hail Mary" type of biasing on the 300B as far as I can tell.  The sound is very dependent on the plate voltage of the 6EM7.  Good luck getting the 2 to sound the same.
Fairy Tales by Radka Toneff
Track 2 is the most challenging.  Highlight how well B+ regulation is done in each amplifying component.  Much better test record than the likes of Teresa Teng.
