An encounter and lesson in speaker prices ...
Fixes it!!?Ruins it!Those types of effects are still fun.I remember some friends and I passing a pair of headphones around "Woah!Sounds like it's shooting through my head!" Deep Purple,Led Zeppelin, etc.

Lol mr_m!I loved that kind of stuff as a teenager;)

In some households the music system is just another part of the decor,no matter if it sounds like crap:)A couple of times in waiting rooms I was flipping through magazines and saw turntables as accessories on shelves and new console stereo systems...
Stereo pre-amps with dual outs for bi-amping and a subwoofer line out
You can run each ic to the sub's line input, then each ic from the sub's line output back to your monblock  amps. Not all subs have a line output but they aren't hard to find. This is how mine is set up.
Talk but not walk?
I'm enjoying this thread. When others post about actual experience even when it's the opposite of what I believe to be true,I'm open to learning more about it.Instead of "Oh that will never work!" I'm in the camp of "Hmm,gotta investigate further".
Can I use just half the biwire?
If you want to use them that way put some shrink wrap or electrical tape on each dangling end to prevent an accidental short.
How much power is too much power. how about 20,000 watts
Who remembers the scene in Back to the Future when Michael J Fox  got thrown across the room playing  a chord through the megawatt amp? :)

I've never had the opportunity to hear Maggies or Soundlabs, though I would love to after reading owners descriptions. If I ended up with a pair sounds like it would be quite the aesthetic challenge:)I like my living/listening room to look good and ...
smaller room monitors
We are are about 8 feet from the tv just like yourself. The room is 20' x15'.The speakers are a pair of tiny Polk bookshelves and a sub. They are plenty loud with good dialog capability and only struggle with very low special effects.Your SVS will n...
Auditioning had a huge affect on my potential budget
Two channels can be great for both music and movies.Just add a sub for watching films with explosive special effects:)
We are buying and reviewing gear all wrong
It's a good idea for those just starting out.I remember an article in one of the magazines where several reviewers recommended entire systems in low, medium, and high costs.Cables were included.
What are you streaming tonight?
Leon Russell - Will'a the wisp
Beware of the cable claiming long burn in period.
I agree with Elizabeth.Everything needs some break in time.Since I don't listen all day every day like she does,if something can't sound good and stay that way after 50-100 hours then back it goes.
In listening to your system(s)...what is most crucial to your enjoyment?
Timbre and realistic dynamics are most important to me.I've also spent a lot of time around musicians. My son teaches and plays professionally also. It's gotta sound real :)
What is your experience with the law of diminishing returns ?
For those of us on a budget - is the new thing REALLY five times better than what I have now?
