Are DAC's overpriced?
"At past audio shows, in every room with the benchmark dac, I spent an average of 2 minutes listening,"Completely baseless conclusion. You can not isolate what you didn't like to just the DAC. You'd need to switch the DACs while keeping everything...
DC Offset Blocker/Killer - where to buy in the USA
If its the amp, it should also buzz/hum at the dealer’s store. Sounds simple enough to verify.
How good's your hearing
She looks just like you! Family resemblance is stunning.
DC Offset Blocker/Killer - where to buy in the USA
I would have expected the buzzing sound to come from both transformers if it’s due to DC riding in your AC line. Secondly, I’d also find it unlikely if it happens after all your efforts and also in your friend’s home. I’d consider getting it repla...
why a high end phono preamp?
For a budget of $500-$600, I’d recommend either the Lehman Original Black Cube or the ifi unit mentioned above. If you’re on an even tighter budget, you can try the Schiit Mani but you should splurge for a linear power supply if you go that route....
Carver 275 Crimson tube amp --- any feedback appreciated
whitestix, I don’t see an M4 Triode Master on the Spatial site, only M3. Did you have your M4 factory converted to 12ohm or he’s no longer making them.Sorry about the tangent. Thanks.
Beware of SACD Transports -- they probably will not work with your favorite DAC
My understanding was in order to playback SACD content using a transport you’ll need a DSD capable DAC. A PCM capable DAC can only process Redbook CD content.
Nuforce STA200
"At 51K ohms input impedance and the high input sensitivity a good candidate for a passive..."The 0.45V input sensitivity is not much of an issue, its actually relatively low, but the 35dB gain is more of a concern. A passive with a low output imp...
Help with Preamp Selection and Network player
oddiofyl, read the policy. This is not your business. If you don’t like it skip the thread. You’re polluting the threads with your posts without any useful content. I’m probably guilty as well responding to you.
Does anyone care to ask an amplifier designer a technical question? My door is open.
"...does this separate route of connection in general improve the sound of the speakers or is it just one of those HiFi myths (pure BS?)."In my experience, it is not a myth and it does incrementally improve the sound quality. My understanding of t...
Thinking about upgrading, but wondering about diminishing returns
"speaker placement alone done properly is the biggest single improvement I ever made."Ditto, and cheapest as well. In particular, soundstage and image specificity most improved. In my experience, improving AC power delivery only helped with lower ...
What is the best way to tame a slightly bright speaker?
I don't have any experience with this specific system but assuming your source is digital, in a (friend's) similarly revealing system moving to an MHDT Pagoda non-oversampling DAC rounded everything out. Poor AC can also manifest itself as excessi...
If you love SET amplifiers, boy do I have speaker for you.
"...101 db 1 watt softdome tweeter does not exist 8 inch woofers good to 35hz at 101 db also do not exist."I must confess I'm also intrigued by the 101dB sensitivity specs. Like to better understand how's that accomplished.
Chord Hugo power supply help
erik, thanks for the explanation. So you're saying since the R is device dependent and fixed, the V is what limits the amount of I delivered to the device. So technically the specified current is the minimum.
Chord Hugo power supply help
"Make sure V are the same, and that your power supply A is equal or greater than what Hugo wants."I don't think you can go too much higher in the amps than what is specified for the unit. P=VI, 12Vx1.5A= 18 Watts. That's the power requirement.
