What's been your turntable ownership over the years?
Gosh, back in the days (70s and 80s) I can only remember brands--couple of Sonys (including one where the plinth/platter/arrm were in a motorized drawer, BIC, Kenwood.  When I got serious about vinyl (late 90s), this has been the lineup:ProJect (c...
Your last concert was to see who and when?
@reubent I did see the show and it could not have been better!  Great seats and an outdoor venue so avoided all the sonic issues of an enclosed environment.  The performance was just unbelievably good, starting with the fact that the musical theme...
Your last concert was to see who and when?
Jeff Lynne's ELO last summer with my daughter (1st concert) at Radio City Music Hall.  Next up, Elvis Costello in Charlotte on June 21.  Third row, center section.  Not as good as my last seats for Elvis--Orchestra pit, 1st row, eight feet from th...
Whats playing on your system today?
Just dropped the needle into "God's Problem Child" by Willie Nelson.  Really nice performance and pretty high quality recording in terms of detail, timbre, etc. Definitely "studio produced" sound but satisfying sonics overall.  Vinyl is dead quiet...
Next step up from the Dynavector 20x2 for more bass?
+1 on patience to let the cart break in.  My understanding and first-hand experience (as an owner of the same cart) is that it does need time to settle in.  I'm plenty happy with frequency response in my system (Avid Volvere / SME IV / Avid Pellar).
How much gain is needed in a Phono Preamp for a 0.2 to 0.3mv low output moving coil?
I just solved for this very situation.  Purchased a Dynavector 20x2L with 0.3 mv and my BAT VK-P5 pre-amp offered a max gain of 56dB which was not enough.  Replaced with an Avid Pellar at the 70dB gain setting which is pretty much just right for t...
Best divorce album?
At least a couple of Elvis Costello albums--Imperial Bedroom, as well as Blood & Chocolate. About as between the eyes lyrically as one can get, and some pretty terrific music and musicianship. The Mofi vinyl reissues are pretty fabulous IMO!
Do you have a secret "guilty pleasure" recording?
Breakaway (album) by Art Garfunkel.  Scmaltzy pop tunes and predictable arrangement but very enjoyable.  More nostalgiac tunes in my guilty pleasure bucket:Ambrosia--Biggest part of MeCyndi Lauper--When You Were MimeBlack Eyed Peas--Where is the L...
Second audio system in your house?
Three "big" systems--main dedicated two channel system (Avid/BAT/Vandersteen), family room "daily driver" surround system (Marantz/B&W) and a Sony/Meridian-based dedicated home theater.  Then there's my home office rig gets which also gets dai...
Sub options with purely music in mind.
Second the Vandersteen (full disclosure, I'm currently selling a 2Wq but ONLY because I replaced with Vandersteen 5s which have built-in subs). You do need to have separate pre- and power-amplification in order to place the crossover between the t...
B&W CDM9nt used vs new 683's
I have owned 600 series floor standers and currently own CDM-1NTs (stand mounted).  Were I faced with your choice, I'd go with the 9NTs.  Assuming they're in great shape, you're getting a much nicer speaker all the way around, especially where app...
Which CD\SACD?
I'll "third" the Marantz--listening to my SA-11S2 right now and it's just "right" whether I'm listening to redbook or SACDs.  Today's lineup has included The Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden" (both discs--CD), Karajan's Beethoven's 9th (SACD), Pink ...
Vandersteen 5 / Quatro Owners--anyone adding a third sub?
"why?" is a fair question! I’m only interested in trying it since I have the sub here just sitting idle. Unfortunately, my current listening room isn’t really that great and I know I’m not able to get the kind of performance with my current placem...
Audiophile pets and their names...
My wife and kids went to the pound without me and adopted a rescue dog.  Turns out his name was / is Miles.  And yeah, he is a very cool dog!
$800 to spend on speakers, $1500 on whole system
213 running makes some good suggestions.  I would add that you look at some of the other gear in the NAD line up, and also check out Cambridge Audio's options.  Marantz also makes a two-channel integrated with an onboard DAC that you can probably ...
