Proac 3.8 / amp match
Well, just a brief story, maybe this will help you. In the '90s I was a Proac owner, first the Response 2, then the Response 3. Both very tube friendly, very easy to drive with the ARC tube amps I loved (D76A, then the VS55). So when the 3.8 came ...
Devore Gibbon 88 v. PMC Twenty-23
Actually, I got it with the KT88s. I decided on those because one of my long-time amps, a small Antique Sound Labs, uses 2 KT88s for 15 watts per channel and it sounds fantastic with the Devores. The Dialogue with the KT88s has that same natural, ...
Devore Gibbon 88 v. PMC Twenty-23
Well that's another consideration. Not only are the Devores more sensitive, but they have a very benign, 8-ohm impedence and match well with tubes. I also use the Prima Luna Dialogue and it's a wonderful combination. And 33 hz ain't too shabby. Be...
Devore Gibbon 88 v. PMC Twenty-23
That's why I went with the 9s, I felt the 8 (which I think was replaced by the 88) would have been a touch lean for my tastes. My understanding is the bass has been extended from the 8 to the 88s. You might want to actually look into finding a pai...
Devore Gibbon 88 v. PMC Twenty-23
I haven't heard the Gibbon 88 but I own the Gibbon 9 (no longer made), and I can't say enough good things about them. They are fantastic with tubes or solid state. In one room, I had them only about 18 inches from the back wall and there was no pr...
Your favorite musical non fatiguing speakers?
I second the Verity Parsifal Encore, owned them for 8 years. I now own Devore Gibbon 9s, which are no longer made, also very listenable for the long haul. And NEITHER of these speakers accomplishes this goal by being "soft" or "rolled off" or "too...
Line Magnetic 501-a gold? any experience?
Dkidmnow, I purchased the LM 518 and the amp put out such a loud hum/buzz that I thought it might have been damaged in shipping and sent it back. They were nice enough to send me a second sample, but I had the same problem, the hum/buzz seemed to ...
Do I really need to upgrade to Rockport Atria ?
Maybe what you really need to do is downgrade to a speaker that will involve you more in the music.
Do I really need to upgrade to Rockport Atria ?
...is downgrade, to a speaker that will involve you more in the music.
looking for musical Tube Integrated Amplifier
I have just ordered a Line Magnetic 518, supposed to come in tomorrow. Ayon, Audiospace and Sofia Electric were on my list but I went with the LM after talking to some owners. This one is a 20-watt singled ended with 845 tubes. They make several i...
Integrated tube amp has no bass Cayin A50T
I had that amp and lack of bass was not a problem with my Devore 9s. If I recall, you can run the amp triode or pentode, the pentode setting has more power and better bass control.
Best speaker that Proac ever made
After several years of really enjoying the Response 2, I also tried the 3 and the 2.5 (and still kept the 2). I think a lot of what me, Jperry, Stefan-air and others observed might have to do with amplification used. The 2 had a very benign impede...

Ayon Orion 2 or Prima Luna Dialogue Premium Int.?
Comedychief, there is only one solution, get them both and then when you make your decision, you can sell me the other one at a big discount. Orpheus10, do those monoblocks kick butt and do they retain the sweetness of the lower powered Primalunas...
Ayon Orion 2 or Prima Luna Dialogue Premium Int.?
For what it's worth, I had one of the ealier Prima Luna 35-watt KT 88 tube amps for about 5 years and loved it. Very reliable, and I really liked the auto bias feature. I used it alternatively with an Audio Research tube amp with my Verity Audio P...
