Is it possible to have a quiet vinyl records
Atmasphere puts it technically, but yes, the phono stage has a great deal to do with noise.  the factors with the turntable itself are weight of platter, torque of motor, and bearing.  heavier platter, more torque equals less noise.
Falling out of love with tubes
If you are talking about the Sonographe sc-26--don't bother, very poor resolution. CJ doesn't even acknowledge they exist. If u can ante up a grand, get a Brown tube pre.
Phono stages belong to which tier?
Another Whest owner here. Whest makes ONLY phono stages.  I have a PS30RDT-Special Edition--absolutely dead quiet.  I bought a B-stock from the factory for less than  Ebe  quoted a  30rdt. Upgraded from a Moon 5.3.  No comparison--one thing I was ...
Do i belong here
Welcome--this just represents life--you can learn some things, but there are truthtellers, b.s.ers, and pretenders to be found.
Turntable sounds so much better when...
Absolutes are never absolute, simply conveniences.  Hi-end is subject to brainwashing and group think the same as any other facet of culture, big or small. As example, it is true that metal platters ring, but a good engineer designs a TT to channe...
Eric Clapton reveals this week of his declining health
There are so many really talented players out there--I think any ' the best ----- player' is b.s.  Nothing but opinions.

You don't have to spend mega-bucks. Get a tube amplifier system-rogue audio, Prima Luna, or tubes4hifi--all good stuff. Some Vandersteen speakers, or Focal or Dali.  Or call Kevin at Upscale Audio--he will steer you where you want to go--he loves ...
Reducing Background Noise On Records
I agree with 'Atmasphere"--also, total inertia of the revolving mass affects noise.  My Avid Diva 2 sp (15 lb platter) naturally has a pretty high background noise-only 12 mNm of torque, pretty small. I added Teres Audio 'verus' high torque drive ...
2018 exactly what is ‘High End’ audio?
Get past the snobbery--high end is about reproducing recordings (hopefully) without note smearing, with accurate instrument tonality, and the qualities related to rhythm and tunefulness.  Everybody can't have the 'last word'. Forget brand heritage...
What’s in your system today that you also had 10 years ago?
My Eton 11-2 speakers, but in their 2nd cabinet--I just recently got the front end up to a level to hear how good the Eton's are--they aren't the last word, but they are good and even--no faults--and the front end matches--either I'm smarter at th...
Tube vs. Solid State Rectifier
The general scuttle-butt is a line-stage -preamp needs tube rectification to keep the magic; not an issue in a power amp.  Just put a Weber WS-1 in my St-120.  runs cooler.
Recommended Preamp for pairing an Adcom 555II Amp and Theil CS 3.5 speakers
Brown Audio in North Texas is reported to make a fine tube-pre for about a grand.
Really satisfied???
I just finished a round of upgrades, with the goal of getting where I wanted to be.  Like islandmandan, getting to hear equipment has been difficult.  But, I have good resolution- no smearing,  like the timing, tone, drive--everything is in balanc...
Most satisfying system change in 2017?
made multiple, and highly significant upgrades this year. Ordered Soundsmith 'The voice' cartridge,  same time I ordered tubes4hifi SP14 line stage. Received cart 1st-big step up from Clearaudio Maestro. Had some bad luck  in other areas of life, ...
How important is the rack you use for your components
I went from a cheap glass and tubing rack to one of steel and air dried maple; as currently configured, the m/t rack weighs 250 lbs.  At the time of change, everything was SS, and was not much above entry level.  After moving the equipment to the ...
