Done, really done! I reached that state just a couple of days ago. Upgraded cartridge and bought tube linestage in June. bought a Bob Latino tube amp in November. Weak link was Moon 5.3 phono stage. Bought a Whest ps 30rdt-special edition. I live in a rural area,...
What music or equipment gifts did you get for Christmas this year? My gift to myself, just coincidence as to time--a Whest ps30RDT-special edition, bought as b-stock from Whest. Stereo finished now. Had a Moon 5.3, and for classical music, poor discrimination of different instrument voices (Wanted improvement i...
the table or the arm first? I went from a Michell badged RB-250 with Incognito wire, to an Audiomod Classic 4, with Incognito wire. Was like going from a P-51 to an F-18, and they cost the same. It is not recommended to use unipivots on Avid's--not compatible with their des...
Preamps w/HT BYPASS that works when preamp is OFF. Roy at tubes4hifi built me an SP-14 (tubed) that automatically goes to HT when unit turned off. Took a bit of communicating. Tell him your processor will control the volume of HT. great line stage by the way.
Cartridge recommendations I have an audiomods classic 4 about 5 years old. Great arm, especiallly for the price-But the cartridge tags he uses are too small for anything, and they are cast. they won't spread so something has to break; I had a tag crack. Took tags off my ...
RB 300 wire- Ingognito or Cardas and why? Used Incognito on a MIchell badged RB250, and on my Audiomod Classic 4, both to excellent results. The Audiomod a fabulous arm, by the way.
Age old discussion I know but MM or MC? Benefits? In my experience, as I have moved to more expensive cartridges, all the sound parameters have improved; always worth the investment. If you aren't going above the $1200 or so ceiling on MM, then MM or MC is your choice. Generally, they are priced...
Which watts are the right watts in SS amps? This summer I went tube-a line stage first, and a Bob Latino St-120 later. A guy reviewed the St-120, who had a Mac Ml275 (recent variant) in a main system. He bought and built the ST-120 kit. In an honest A-B comparison, the Latino, that costs ...
Cartridges: Complete Scam? Every jump in price level I have made cartridge wise has seen a significant improvement in all musical factors, at each change. people are just blowing smoke, or can't hear for beans, or don't know how to listen. Same for amps; some say amps do...
Tube preamp recommendations $3K-$7K range The Don Sachs SP-14 is the Vacuum Tube Audio SP-14 (tubes4hifi.com) with the most expensive parts available as upgrades. I have the regular version, and love it. Space and resolution. If you want the most, look hard at the Dos Sachs. Enjoy the...
Anyone compared Whest Audio with Manley Steelhead? See testimonials on Whest website--guy there reports going to a ps30 or 40rdt se from a Manley steelhead--said the Whest creamed the Steelhead.
Why does unplugging/replugging TT leads from tube phono pre-amp reset dead channel? BAT--balanced audio technology--no RCA's, period. strictly xlr. |
