Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Travbrow, sounds like Empire followed the Acutex program. The Acutex 300 series are induced magnet types (with titanium cantilevers and nude exotic styli); Whereas the later 400 series are MM. I’m still very fond of the 320 models; I own both an L...
How low of the cartridge output the Allnic H3000 can handle?
Not many here have extensive experience with the H3000, evidently.why not ask the US distributor? Are you using the low output version of the ZYX cartridge? If so those cartridges have about the same output as a platinum version Koetsu. So there s...

Otherwise any similar size and shape magnet would probably do.
stanton str 8 80 ?
And I’m just saying please read my post with a more open mind. The tonearm is not “short”; it’s designed to underhang the spindle. All such tonearms can be shorter than any overhung tonearm and do function just fine. The geometry is not “unknown”....
stanton str 8 80 ?
Chakster  originally you were critical of the Stanton tonearm because of its short length and lack of headshell offset angle. I am saying that the tonearm fits into a class of underhung tone arms, and that such tonearms have a great deal of merit ...
stanton str 8 80 ?
Rocky, your tonearm is just fine. Let us know how it sounds.
stanton str 8 80 ?
Gentlemen, the Stanton tonearm is underhung. Which is to say that the tip of the stylus will be short of the spindle. All or 99% of the conventional tonearms that you are talking about are overhung tonearms. Which is to say the stylus hangs over ...
Tonearms with no anti-skate adjustment
Dover, I disagree.
Tonearms with no anti-skate adjustment
Moonglum, Just to clear up a basic point in our discussion, I think/thought that originally you were claiming that LOWERING the pivot point would.... etc.  But in your last post, you are talking about RAISING the pivot point.  In the latter case, ...
Tonearms with no anti-skate adjustment
Moonglum, In your model using a balance scale, the restorative force is gravity, acting to restore equilibrium once you remove the upgoing force you applied in order to raise the pan on one side.  At the starting point, where the two pans are leve...
Tonearms with no anti-skate adjustment
Maybe Schick was thinking about the fact that for longer tonearms, the tracking angle error due to non-tangency of the cantilever to the groove is less on average than for a "shorter" tonearm, all other things being equal.  But you still have head...
Tonearms with no anti-skate adjustment
Moonglum, are you going to take your marbles and go home? I am very interested in your hypothesis. Please explain in more words. I am willing to be convinced. First of all, I want to be sure what you are saying. Are you saying that there will be ...
RIAA, Questions only please
We have an equation with 3 variables: the filter built into the cutter head, the filter built into the phono stage, and the degree to which any magnetic cartridge is actually “perfect” as a velocity dependent transducer of kinetic energy into sign...
Tonearms with no anti-skate adjustment
Cleeds is correct. VTF goes down if the pivot point is moved down. Also,  The skating force is due to the friction of the stylus in the groove. Therefore the magnitude of the skating force will vary based on the stylus shape, the degree of tracking...
What's your go-to cheapie cartridge?
Acutex LPM320 or M320.  Probably not realistic to mention these as they are very hard to find anywhere.  They are Induced Magnet types with stereohedron-like styli and titanium cantilevers.  Output is 2-3mV, I think.
