Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier
Reading through (very long!) thread, I see that positions 1 and 3 are the most important... I'll put some good glass in there.I guess I'll roll things around to see what the impact is on the sound otherwise, since this thread is mostly dead.---Mic...
Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier
A few years ago, I posted about problems with the used 2.1 I purchased... Then, I ended up moving across the country, and dropped off the Gon for a while.Anyway, I did get some relief from the seller, so that was fine. I haven't fixed it yet, but ...
Metrum octave vs new Rega DAC vs Eastern electric
Elberoth,Thanks for that... I'll look into the changes, although I admit that I am not terribly experienced with soldering, so I should probably leave that to other people!I found the conversation online where the discussion by Paul is made. I'm g...
Metrum octave vs new Rega DAC vs Eastern electric
jcote,Where did you read that? That sounds very interesting, and as an owner of a Metrum and AP2, I have to say that I'm very happy with the sound, but I'd love to take it up a notch!---Michael
Experience with Metrum Octave DAC
Mine came in on Wednesday, and I've had it burning in somewhat continuously since then. I figure I'll place some good mojo on the unit by burning it in with Dark Side of the Moon. It's clearly the best DAC I have had in my system, but that's not sa...
Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier
hmmm...I am having problems with the left channel popping and increased hiss on that side. I think there is a problem with this preamp. I reversed the tubes to see if it was them, and the problem stayed on the left, so I suspect there is a problem...
Audio Horizons TP 2.0 Preamplifier
Folks, I just purchased a AH 2.1nbr preamp and have a few questions about it...It has basic EH tubes in it, and I would like to upgrade those to a better quality tube. Any recommendations for a first roll? I'd prefer to no be purchasing $200/tube ...
Which is a better choice? New, or used preamp?
Thanks for the additional feedback folks...I've got a lot of research to do, but this is all very much appreciated information.---Michael
Which is a better choice? New, or used preamp?
Thanks for the feedback... That's basically what I figured, and so I was thinking I would probably go the used route. I couldn't imagine that the preamps had really made that much improvement for a new one to better one that is maybe 10 years old,...
Tube preamp for about $1500?
peterayer,I want a somewhat neutral sounding tube pre... I have paired a Pass amp with a tubed pre in the past to very good effect, and want to go that route if possible.I used to have an X-1. It's a fine preamp for sure. I had it paired with am M...
Tube preamp for about $1500?
Thanks for the suggestions folks.Any commentary on the sound of BAT and Atma-Sphere compared to the Sonic Frontiers units? I am most familiar with the older SFL1 and SFL-2 units.I do not have a need for phono inputs. On the ARC products, there have...
Cd player w/ digital input + volume control $2500
I decided to purchase a Metrum Octave, as the current exchange rate is a little more favorable. If I don't like it, I'll sell it, I guess, but by all accounts, it may match what I want/need in a DAC.Thanks for the feedback everyone. Now, on to pream...
Cd player w/ digital input + volume control $2500
I've done a lot of research on all of this now, (but am no closer to an answer!).I am heavily favoring a pair of Totem Fire speakers at the moment. The Earth speakers would be my preference, but I'm not sure about the cost of those. Anyway, for am...
Cd player w/ digital input + volume control $2500
Good recommendations all.I'll look into all and see what I can find.I understand the sonos has a lot of jitter. Should I be looking for a re locking DAC? I do coincidentally have a monarchy dip 24/96 here...---Michael
Cd player w/ digital input + volume control $2500
Ejlir,That's a very good thought, and something I have considered, but without extensive testing, I didn't figure I would be able to answer it, so I appreciate the feedback. That opens me up to a much less expensive DA and a really excellent preamp...
