Herbies Pucks floor spike protectors... I still have some gliders. They didn’t do much for me under equipment rack nor Sound Anchors for my speakers (laminate floor), but they protect the flooring fine :D
Recommendation for input coupling caps Sure I get that. But it would be a simple test to hook up a safe source, replace the Mundorf with a straight wire, test for DC offset, then evaluate the effect the cap is having. If the unpleasant sound profile still exists, then the problem is th...
Airist Audio discrete R-2R DAC, at an unbelievable $350!!!!! ...I'm talking about the headfi thread posted.....come on
Recommendation for input coupling caps "Agreed that I don't have good evidence.. none the less am interested to try something else, which I could then compare to my current amp and see the if capacitor has the effect or not" - fair enough! Just one last thought, can the input cap not ...
Airist Audio discrete R-2R DAC, at an unbelievable $350!!!!! Whole thread reads like a mass shill!
Metrum Onyx versus Metrum Pavane OT but where'd you get an Onyx for $1500? Massive discount!
HagUsb..... Blast from the past! I used to have the HagUSB....what 10 years ago? It used the PCM2702 right? A basic USB 1.0, 16 bit max device and thus no external drivers needed. Things have moved on a lot from those kind of devices.
Recommendation for input coupling caps Hang on, so you’ve not specifically qualified the effect (if any) of the input cap alone vs the overall "flat/compressed" amp sound signature; neither have you qualified the differential benefit (if any) of the Mundorf Supreme over a generic cap, ...
Integrated amp question.....around $1000..could use some help! Me again. Totally forgot about the Anthem 225; I used to own that! It’s OK, fine, on the same level as the Exposure. But still the Simaudio Moon was a cut above; more engaging with better imaging. I think it’s the best option on your list. This la...
First DAC: Metrum-MHDT-Rega-or? No issue with USB length if connecting that way. SPDIF is max 10m. The $1,000 range is a bit sparse for even used units, so if buying new I'd go for Metrum.
Integrated amp question.....around $1000..could use some help! I’ve heard a few of the amps on your list in various incarnations. Seems like you want a neutral, analytical sound more than euphonic so I’d say cross the Primare and Creek off your list. Musical Fidelity, too - but not cause it's warm rather than...
ATC SCM20, Wow what sound.. Except there’s also the "SCM20" from the home classic series with the detachable baffle: http://atcloudspeakers.co.uk/hi-fi/loudspeakers/classic-series/scm20/I’m not clear how the 19/20/Pro can be voiced much differently if the crossover point is ...
What is the best way to tame a slightly bright speaker? Toeing out sounds fine. Not to harp on this, but simple attenuation is the right solution. Looking at the crossover, a resistor change looks extremely easy to do cause it appears accessible from the base and detachable with screws. https://static1...
Best bookshelf speakers I think it was Steve Gutenberg who recommended a 50:33:17 speaker:amp:dac cost ratio. What if you do something more like 70:20:10? Will you get better SQ out of a more balanced "Gutenberg distribution", given a fixed budget?I think it's more to ...
Most well rounded LS3/5A-inspired speaker? I’ve seen the innards of an LS3/5a and that kit doesn’t resemble the complicated crossover of the LS3/5a at all. The crossover in an LS3/5a resembles a small amplifier. Read the write-up; it uses different drivers entirely (but tries to stick to... |
