Replace PS Audio DLIII + Pass Preamp With Directstream Jr? I have tried my DSJ connected directly to MC501 amps and felt the sound was "thin". Sound is definitely better with a pre in the loop,Thanks for that comment. I was supposing I could replace my preamp and DLIII and get the DSJ with only a small ad...
Replace PS Audio DLIII + Pass Preamp With Directstream Jr? Excellent observation, auxinput. I've done some searching here about opinions on driving a power amp directly from a DAC, and there seems to be somewhat less preference for that sound than when a good preamp is used between the DAC and power amp. ...
Replace PS Audio DLIII + Pass Preamp With Directstream Jr? Matt, I suppose it comes down to a comparison between the somewhat old DLIII and the DAC in the DS Jr., and assuming that the digital domain volume control on the latter is transparent (truly no loss of resolution over its operating range.) I'd al...
Good Speakers with Pass XA30.5 Power Amp? First, do my 2' listening test. Bring the speakers out into the room and sit about 2' away. This will reveal the actual tonality of the speakers. The difference between that and your normal experience is room acoustics. Excellent idea. I'd never h...
Good Speakers with Pass XA30.5 Power Amp? Is anyone using (or has heard) this amp with Acoustic Zen Adagios? Will these be markedly different from (more lively than) the PSB Synchrony One? I believe I saw SV II for sale on audiogon from SIngapore, offered at 3600 USD. Its a great value...
PSB Synchrony One Speakers and Pass XA30.5 Amp Perhaps, start a new thread and you will get responses from tube guys and Pass Class A owners who can recommend an efficient speaker that excels in jazz and classical reproduction.Good suggestion, lowrider57. I will do just that. Thanks much!
PSB Synchrony One Speakers and Pass XA30.5 Amp Why change the amp? I suggest auditioning some speakers that are more efficient and are more neutral. PSB's are toward the warm side, which is not a good match for the Pass Class A.I'm willing to consider alternatives to the Sychrony One. What can...
PSB Synchrony One Speakers and Pass XA30.5 Amp Are you getting 3D imaging and wide soundstaging? You should be with that amp.Lastly, what are your speaker cables? lowrider57, not really remarkable imaging or soundstaging (I've had better in another system in another house.) Space constraint...
PSB Synchrony One Speakers and Pass XA30.5 Amp I typically listen at very moderate levels and the lack of dynamics to which I refer are at such levels. I wouldn't have thought insufficient power would be an issue at such moderate levels (the bias meter on the amplifier barely moves.) And altho...
Pass XP-10 vs. Conrad Johnson ET3-SE thanks all. Would be excellent to hear from people who have heard both of these in the same system. Perhaps I should have added Parasound Halo JC2 preamp to the mix since it is priced between the CJ and Pass.
Pass XA-30.5 and PSB Synchrony One Thanks all for your helpful comments! I will proceed with this.
Aragon 4004 power light on but no sound Yes, check the rail fuses. But since it appears that both channels are dead it might be a fuse (or problem - faulty power switch?) related to the power supply. More likely that than two (or perhaps four) rail fuses blowing simultaneously.
PSB Synchrony vs. Sonus Faber Cremona M The amp (Hafler 9500 - 375w/ch into 4 ohms - with MOSFET output devices) is very comfortable driving lower impedances (it happily drove Infinity 8 kappa for years - and those speakers together with their big brothers the 9 kappa have the reputatio...
PSB Synchrony vs. Sonus Faber Cremona M No, Bifwynne, I don't know whether the Synchrony One uses a Be tweeter. I'm surprised no one has offers any comments on this comparison. Both of these speakers have individually received quite a bit of discourse here, but I suppose owing to the fa...
PSB Synchrony vs. Sonus Faber Cremona M I omitted the fact that it's the PSB Synchrony One floorstanding speaker to which I'm referring. |
