How good is your hearing ? And how do you know ?
I would agree that the equipment of the 70's had something special. Musicality. But the recording process is so different now- I doubt that modern recordings would sound so great on that old vintage equipment.
A DAC that crushes price vs. performance ratio
Reviewers, Dealers- in either case it’s a conflict of interest waiting to happen. Obviously, anyone can put up a post, with or without a statement of their ties to the industry. But I submit that this forum is for end-users (audiophiles and music ...
A DAC that crushes price vs. performance ratio
Personally, I would prefer it if professional reviewers stayed away from user’s forums.  Anyone who wants his opinions can read all about them in his rag.
"The End of The Road"
They all have their trade offs, partly due to their being an imperfect solution to a problem. Sounds are created by point sources, which is worlds away from dividing a signal into two channels, and then relying on the brain to reassemble.Aside fro...
The Absolute Sound vs Stereophile
I identify TAS with a lot of what’s wrong with our hobby these days. Harley and Valin are the faces of TAS, yet their articles reek of elitism, subjectivity, superficiality, and general lack of professionalism. A recent low point was their pronoun...
Class D Audio
Warning, listening to early Floyd can lead to momentary lapses of mental function.
Polite Rules for discussing Audio related things
The search for approval..Credit to those with more wholesome intentions. Their contributions stand out here.
Cable Burn In
Wind 'em up and watch 'em go!  If only a fraction of this energy was spent solving actual problems..I've been experimenting with hifi for a few years. At first I felt the need to reject all the dubious ideas, like tweaks, fancy footers, cable burn...
Blocking the propaganda
For whatever type of sound and gear you prefer, there are usually one or two reviewers (usually old guys) who can help you reach the endzone. For example, Dick Olsher for flea weight tube gear. Why re-invent the wheel, when someone else with good ...
Mono Blocks on a Budget, is it possible?
If getting the best possible sound within a strict budget is the priority, I don't think monoblocks are the best way to go.  Dollar for dollar, better quality will be obtained by eliminating the extra expense of monoblocks.
Loom versus mix and match
I've always mixed and matched.  Trusting one manufacturer for all cables requires courage and commitent.  I happily use Nordost speaker cables in a tube based system.
TECHNICS 100th Anniversary 2018 Premium Turntables. Their best ever.
There are hundreds if not thousands of great turntables currently available. Why waste your breath trumpeting about a turntable that you haven't seen or heard, and does not even yet exist in commercial form? Are you a Tecnics fanboy? I owned a Tec...
Hello, my name is WisepreadPanic and I’m an addict
I'm nostalgic for the old days, when people used correct spelling and punctuation, and didn't scream so loudly for attention.
Thumbs up for ultrasonic record cleaning
I use Keith Monks vacuum machine. Built like a tank. Quick, easy, safe, no mess, no setup, minimal maintenance, and records sound great. Game over.
