PranaFidelity speakers, what say you?
I responded to a PM sondekmcintosh5 sent privately, but figured I’d also post info here, in case anyone else is considering a taller / less expensive alternative to the PranaFidelity recommended stands for the Bhavas?I personally got a 2nd hand pa...
Which area of components to spend the most $ on? Boy I was wrong all my life!
"The majority, even the experts recommend to spend the most money on speakers."Experts? Oh, you mean the people who are pushing for you to buy their product, or paid to write good reviews? Take everything they say with a pinch of salt.Synergy is e...
PranaFidelity speakers, what say you?
This is a year old thread, but just wanted to say that I bought the Bhavas and love them. If anyone wants to hear them in the Southern California area, drop me a line.
Kinki Studio EX-M1 200wpc Integrated Amplifier
Thanks for the tip, Al. jackd:My Rythmik L12 subs have their own internal power amp, and only accept RCA inputs. Unless I'm missing something obvious, they always have to be run directly from a preamp.
Kinki Studio EX-M1 200wpc Integrated Amplifier
I don’t want to run only main speakers, but also some active subwoofers. So I need RCA pre-outputs. mboldda1:Inputs bypassing the preamp (effectively turning the EX-M1 into a power amp) aren’t a bad idea; I’m sure Alvin could do. It defeats the po...
Kinki Studio EX-M1 200wpc Integrated Amplifier
I dropped Alvin a line; he said for an extra $150 they can change a pair of stereo inputs to pre-outs. That’s great news!
Kinki Studio EX-M1 200wpc Integrated Amplifier
It’s a shame the EX-M1 doesn’t have a preamp outputs. I’m all for simplicity, but it seems they’re excluding a sizable portion of potential integrated customers by not doing so. I wonder if it could be modified by a tech to install preamp outs?
Best vintage amps (late 70s / early 80s) under $3k?
I've enough suggestions now to explore and make a decision upon. Thanks to everyone for contributing!
Best vintage amps (late 70s / early 80s) under $3k?
I’ve spoken to someone who had an M-25. More power, inferior sound, and unfortunately just as much heat.I know the guy who had the Tekton and M-22. He ended up getting a Don Sachs tube amp that he prefers. Tekton are very efficient speakers though...
Best vintage amps (late 70s / early 80s) under $3k?
Thank you, timlub. Anything specific from your list that sounded like the M-22 on steroids and didn't run hot? That's what I'm after, ideally.
Best vintage amps (late 70s / early 80s) under $3k?
mrdecibel - I wonder the same thing, but it's great to get recommendations from people who have been in the hobby far longer than myself. I google every amp that's suggested and read reviews and past forum discussions. I wouldn't have bought th...
Tekton Double Impacts
Anyone in Southern California have DIs? Would be amazing to get a quick demo. These have been on my buy list for ages, but I gotta hear 'em first.
Best vintage amps (late 70s / early 80s) under $3k?
glennewdick - Well, it depends on your definition of "better". In my opinion, to get a modern amp that’s of the same caliber as a vintage M-22 (generally around $1k used) you could potentially spend 5 to 10 times the price. I’m not ruling out cont...
Best vintage amps (late 70s / early 80s) under $3k?
Thanks for all the responses so far.mrdecibel - No, the M-22 doesn't clip and sounds great. I've just noticed higher wattage amps have a little more "driver grip" (for lack of a better phrase). Heat is the bigger issue right now. It's true there's ...
Schiit not shipping
It seems that more and more folk are preferring the Saga over the Freya due to it's transparency. Some audio industry heavyweights with VERY high end systems have been seen using the Saga. Unless you need the extra gain of the Freya, I'd suggest p...
