Rotel vs. Odyssey???
I had a 1075 (I think) and a Khatargo. The Rotel has a much more relax character, while Odyssey is much more neutral, in my opinion, even a bit bright depending on how you perceive the extended, airy, highs. They take longer to break in before the...
Isolation for a table for floors with movement
Since you say your floors are a problem area, my first thought is I would not couple to floors with brass and spikes. Instead, go the isolation approach, either with viscoelastic type material (Sorbothane is a brand name) or -- in my opinion overk...
Setup for digital/pc based system?
That's not entirely correct. You could buy one of these Behringer UCA-202 or equivalent that converts USB into optical:http://www.behringer.de/EN/Products/UCA202.aspxObviously, the optical would feed into your player.
Best digital stream player
Aside from the DAC implementation, what are these products doing to the digital stream that could impart their own sonic signature? When you install Windows, does the code change depending on if you're using an Asus DVD-ROM or a Toshiba one?
Best surround processor $2-2.5K used ????
None in my opinion! I've read all the reviews and they coincide with my experience with the NAD T175 -- there simply isn't an HDMI processor on the market that I know of without any problems (popping noises, hdmi handshake, etc.). Bet best is to p...
OPPO BDP-83 audio output question
Why not use the optical out if you want to feed your DAC?
Mackie 824 vs Dynaudio BM 5A
Also consider an ADAM A7. I would definitely complement any of these with a subwoofer, since studio monitors don't really have the bass volume and extension necessary for HT.
The Hub: Your newbie wants a system?
I think the likes of Wadia and Music Vault are grossly overpriced marketed towards audiophiles with limited computer knowledge. Those of us who work with computers have known of this possibility, probably for a decade. I run a network-attached-sto...
Makeshift Isolation - Advice Needed
No, felt doesn't provide good isolation, otherwise there wouldn't be a problem putting components directly on top of carpet, but those rubber feet under each one of your components do (ever wonder why manufacturers make those?).
hardwood floor and speaker
Either take out the spike, or use one of those cones. It's the same thing, in my opinion. You end up with the same surface area contact with the floor. Spikes don't isolate the speaker stand, they couple it to the floor, so that speaker vibrations...
How tall are your speaker stands
I've heard tweeter at ear level. Mine are 24" (Osiris). I suppose if you have home theater seats instead of a couch, they could be higher.
The Cyclicality of Black Vs Silver
At the risk of sounding.... it depends on how well it compliments your room.
How to isolate bookshelf speakers on a bookshelf
Any visco-elastic material lowers the natural frequency and dissipates vibrations into heat. All these diamond racing cones, vibrapoints, blue tacks, neoprene, etc., work on the same principle.
Building a music server - newbie
I'm with Dick, use a USB DAC, or one of those USB/Optical converters to a DAC, and then to your preamp. It's much simpler than going for a soundcard, and probably cheaper too. Studio soundcards have many features unnecessary for audio; matrixing y...
Searching for passive subwoofer...
VMPS is the only one I know of.
