Where do cables upgrades have the most impact?
To answer your question, mostly on your wallet.
Skeptic or just plain hard headed
You guys and your cables are hysterical.  Thanks so much for the laugh--I needed it this AM.
Need a Record Brush. Got a recommendation?
Still using my Discwasher from 1970's.  Seems to work fine on direct-to-disc records as well as all others.  Not sure that is fair as my records and turntable setup haven't changed much since then either.Cheers!
If you could just pick one instrument that you think sounds best on your speakers
Maggies:  Linda Ronstadt, Maria Muldar
What is the most memorable concert that you had attended so far?
Where to start? I have ticket stubs from James Brown in the 200-seat Y-Court building at college (UNC): $2.00--1965??First concert, PP&M, 1962, Norfolk Auditorium, I think. Next was either the Rolling Stones or Ray Charles--got to look at the ...
Any Mark Knopfler fans out there?
Big Mark fan, but have been an Emmy Lou fan since before Grievous Angel...RIP, Gram...
What albums, in your opinion, sound unquestionably better on Vinyl rather than Digital?
Like others have posted, ALL OF THEM.  When you use algorithms to remove every x bit from the stream to save time and space, you prevent the entire recording from being recoreded and played back, even if the codec is supposed to "replace" those bi...
which Audio Research pre-amp?
@bdp24 is correct:  LISTEN to both in your system at home and then make a decision. What YOU like has no bearing on what others think or say or post.As a former dealer, I am always amazed at people who do not wish to make their own decisions about...
Speakers for a very large room?
Install your current system in the room. Listen.  If you don't feel the experience is equal to your current room sound, see if you can figure out why.  Re-position the speakers a few times.   If you still don't feel the sound is what you want, det...
Have you ever reversed your opinion on a piece of gear?
As a former dealer, I have reversed my feelings on a piece of gear many times for different reasons.  For example, as I have posted here before, EVERY piece of Nakamichi I sold broke within 2 weeks and had to be sent back for service.  They came b...
Do people really just not get it that their items are not selling...
I get this and have a question. I am THINKING about selling a set of speakers that was refurbished by the factory to new and just have remained in their sealed boxes since I have another pair I listen to. Back then, these sold for a bit over $1500...
best preamps
Except that the Jeff Rowland sounds horrible in MY ROOM.Like I wrote earlier, get a bunch of them and try them in YOUR ROOM, which, as everyone knows, is the most important determiner of how anything "sounds."Why is this so hard to get across??
best preamps
Everything depends upon your ROOM.  All the pre-amps mentioned here are wonderful in some ways and not so much in others--see the qualifying comments supplied with the recommendations.  Your ROOM is the main determiner of how your total system sou...
Marty Balin has passed away.
Saw him in person a couple of years ago at a very small venue.  AMAZING talent, of course, but humble on stage as he connected with whatever musicians connect with to bring their art to the rest of us.My generation of musicians is leaving us--they...
Do speaker cables need a burn in period?
WHY are you all still working on this one?  I already posted the final answer:I have PERSONALLY spoken to the electrons, and they stated unequivocally that they NEED BURN IN.  It makes it MUCH easier to travel down a wire that is already "slick" f...
