Do speaker cables need a burn in period?
Sure they do.  I PERSONALLY have spoken to the electrons and they MUCH PREFER cables that have been broken in so they can travel in smoother lines.
Get well Dickey Betts
Stood on the side of the stage in 1972 in Bristol VA/TENN and watched Duane and Dickey trade solos during a show we opened for them at some college there.  Both our bands were staying at the local Holiday Inn, which, I am sure back then, thought a...

Easy one:Biggest seller of all time back in the day--and an amazing artist:Linda Ronstadt by a mile.
In search for speakers of "natural" sound

Solid State vs. Tubes - What if Transistors came first?
@tubessuck:Oh, yeah.  Forgot about the people MAKING the music, I guess:https://www.guitarplayer.com/gear/guitar-essentials-five-things-you-should-know-about-tubesNot that THEY are important--only the musicians, after all. What the heck do THEY kn...
Solid State vs. Tubes - What if Transistors came first?
Tubes suck? What a revelation!  And here I thought they were inanimate objects.  I will have to go back to biology class to find out what their various support systems are.  Obviously you are either a genius or, well, we will use the Bambi and Thu...
50 years on---the brilliance of The Band and their astounding debut album.
Thanks, man.  Most of us "old folks" who loved music were HUGE Band fans from day 1.  You have brought back some wonderful memories; I still have them on my turntable often and listen to ALL their albums from over the many years they were recordin...
Burt Reynolds has passed away
RIP, Burt.  Here in Palm Beach County he was a constant presence.  He had a local theater (Jupiter) for public performances by mostly local actors of stage plays and a "school" where people could learn the job.  He was everyone's friend down here ...
Is It Possible?
Quads have/had their place in audio history. I mean, no other than Mark Levinson hisself (sorry, Honest Charlie) chose them to be in his famous HQD system back in the day.  https://www.stereophile.com/content/mark-levinson-hqd-loudspeaker-systemht...
Which magnepan
My opinion is to try all that qualify in your budget/equipment match and take them home and listen for a week-end.  That should point you in the right direction.  Typically, the larger the Maggie, the more power amp(s) you need to get the SPL up t...
Listening Height Adjustment -- Is This Why Two People Don't Hear the Same?
Ha-Ha.  This is pretty funny these days now that various speaker manufacturers have decided to make many speakers 6' tall.  I WONDER where they got that idea (Magnepan) and what influenced their driver placement (Magnepan) and why they work on "im...
Which Nakamichi to choose?
While they certainly SOUNDED wonderful when compared to vinyl back in the day--a "hollow" sound was the most notable difference when compared A-B to vinyl--my personal experience when selling Nakamichi was that 100% of them came back broken within...
Does hearing the best in high end audio make your opinions more valid?
If you are asking for a "reference point" for music listening, I would suggest a few small classical concerts--quartets?--at the local college and so forth.  If you like jazz or modern rock, etc., go to a few smaller venues and listen. No way they...
Listening to equipment at home before you buy
This is so different from the brick-and-mortar days when I had my shop.  We actually almost demanded that the customer take the item home and listen to it before buying, especially for high-dollar items. I might mention that some manufacturers bac...
Luxman Integrated?
I have been using two Lux CL-32 pre-amps since the 1970's.  One just failed and I am going to pay to get it fixed.  NOT the best pre-amp in the world, but seems to be OK for my casual listening.  AND, they have lasted over 40 years each until now,...
