Denon DL 103R vs. AT OC9 - MLII
I'm very tempted to give the AT150 a shot. Lots of bang for the buck. I think the stylus/cantilever is similar to the OC9. Seems like a good tracker :)
Denon DL 103R vs. AT OC9 - MLII
Raul - Thanks for the input regarding my phono stage and for confirming some of the cart recommendations that Viridian and others have made.I remember reading a synopsis by Michael Fremer on the MiniMax where he felt the top end could be bit soft ...
Denon DL 103R vs. AT OC9 - MLII
Mapman,Glad to hear that the DL103R works well with your Axis/Basik, which is similar to my older LP-12. I have read a few posts where this cart seemed to work well on some arms where it shouldn't have.
Denon DL 103R vs. AT OC9 - MLII
Thank you, Gentleman.I'm currently running the Dynavector 10x5 on the Linn, so I'm thinking that going to one of the less expensive AT carts might be a bit of a sideways move? I've never tried either of them so I wouldn't be able to say for sure. ...
Denon DL 103R vs. AT OC9 - MLII
After checking a cartridge/arm database calculator, it seems that neither of these carts would be a good choice for my arms. Oh well......
Denon DL 103R vs. AT OC9 - MLII
Thanks, PhillIdeally I'd want a cart that would work on both of my arms: Linn Basik LV-X and Clearaudio Satisfy.
Mullard 12AX7 re-issue Cryo vs Non Cryo
I'm not familiar with the different types of Ei 12AX7's, but Thorman was kind enough to send me a couple of the cryo'd tubes to try. They definitely have a bit of that "mid-treble presence" that Anacrusis alluded to when used in either my phono sta...
Tube-friendly speakers
Thanks for the recommendations, Gentleman :)I am not at all familiar with some of these brands, but now I have a range of speakers to look into.Atmasphere: I see that you listed the Vandersteen as being a possible candidate. I've heard mention of ...
SoundSmith re-tip
Raul,Did you go with the standard re-tip or the Ruby? Thanks :)
Spindle diameter - Marantz TT15
Thanks to all - I'm glad that I checked on this!I'll have to get my hands on a caliper and then will follow up with Yip. I'll make sure to add .001 to the final measurement to be safe.
Dynavector 10x5 - tracking
Thanks, Doug.I'm certainly not hearing any mistracking or distortion, so perhaps I'm ok. Unfortunately, an older/wiser buddy of mine made me a bit paranoid when it comes to passing the tests on that LP. I was afraid of ruining LP's due to gross mi...
Dynavector 10x5 - tracking
Thanks,I'm not sure how to achieve this with the protractors I currently have. The GeoDisc does have a sight line for the stylus. Perhaps by sighting the the point where the cantilever and suspension meet?I'd like to get a Mint tractor but I don't...
Mahavishnu Orchestra fans...?
Gammajo - Sony/Legacy did issue remastered versions of these titles a few years back. I can't comment on "Inner Mounting Flame" but the more recent CD issue of "Birds of Fire" does sound better than the previous one.The Speakers Corner LP of "Inne...
12BZ7 tubes
Not sure what I have. The tubes are marked with "12BZ7" in gray near the top of the glass but there's no indication of manufacturer.
SME 3009 II w/ Linn Sondek
My only fear with the Grace 707 is the headshell. I don't know if they are easily replaceable. Perhaps the 747 is better in this department? One of the Rega variants seems like a good way to go and would most likely perform well on a number of TT's...
