Technics SL-1200 goes out of production
How does the MK6 differ from the MK5, other than being produced for a different market?
Power Cords
I can't offer much in the way of power cord recommendations, but I swapped the stock PC on my 840C with a VH Audio Flavor 1 and have had good results.
Fosgate Signature Phono Preamp
Can anyone make some comparisons between the Fosgate and the Eastern Electric MiniMax phono?
Cary SLP98-P
Polk432 - Thanks for the info! If I picked up the Cary, I'd only be looking to run MM carts through it like the Clearaudio Virtuoso. The Nighthawk seems to be handling the Ortofon Rondo MC nicely so far.I had a 10x5 mounted on my Linn/Basik at one...
SED Winged C el34. Help
I replaced the stock Ruby's in my Six Pac amps with SED EL-34's from Jim McShane. More warmth overall and so far, more reliable.
AES - AE3 Linestage
Mechans,I can't say for sure that my GTA's are/aren't the ones that you speak of. They are short bottles with the flashing extending down the side of the tube. The plates are similar in shape to those in my Sylvania VT-231's - I'd describe them as...
All Things Must Pass
Reviving this thread....Just picked up a used copy of this LP from Academy Records in NYC.U.S. pressing. Clean copy but generally noisy vinyl. A little bit of distortion on the top end at times. Overall better sonics compared to the original CD re...
AES - AE3 Linestage
Thanks, MechansI'm currently running a pair of Sylvania VT-231's along with a 70's Mullard 5AR4. I've also run Sylvania GTA's and RCA GTB's but prefer the VT-231's. Good to know that you found tube rolling to be more significant than cap upgrades....
Cary SLP-98
I should have mentioned in the original post: I'm running a pair of AES Six-Pac amps. For carts, I'm currently running either an Ortofon Rondo Bronze MC (.5mv) on an old LP-12, or a Clearaudio Virtuoso Wood MM (3.6mv) on a Marantz TT. I have no co...
Rediscover CTI Records & Jazz Record History
Freddie Hubbard's "Red Clay" is one of my favorites.
If you like Levon Helm
...and if you get the chance, see Levon's group live. I was lucky enough to be on the side of the stage for one of his shows this year and on one tune, they really managed to capture the "sound" of The Band circa 1975. That amazed me. Jimmy Vivino...
New favorite VINYL Album?
Purchased both the Levon Helm and Wilco LP's a couple of weeks ago along with Junior Wells' "Hoodoo Man Blues."
Audio Electronic Supply AES/Cary AE3 MkII preamp
I have also experienced the mechanical noise that Stevehuff1 has described. Setting the linestage with its tiny stock feet on a steel shelf most likely increased the effect. I'm sure that the Cary soft shoes would help. I've since set my AE-3 on V...
Audio Electronic Supply AES/Cary AE3 MkII preamp
Has anyone made any upgrades in regards to capactitors, etc to their Mark II preamps?
Re: Story about Ringo
Say what you want about about Ringo's drumming, but he has a "feel" that is near-impossible to emulate. When you're propelling a band, it's all about support and groove. The word synergy gets bounced around a lot on this forum. Those four players i...
