Review: Naim Audio NAC 282 Preamplifier
It appears that I am almost 11 years late with this post. The NAC 282 is regarded as the best bang for the buck in the Naim range of preamplifiers which is said to sound rather close to the top-of-the-range 552 (although there is now a new Stateme...
Harbeth P3ESR or Monitor 30?
You didn’t mention the amplifier used but that too makes a difference. As you probably know, Harbeth speakers are easy to drive and sound quite good with most suitably powered amplifiers. This would include certain British solid state integrated a...
Harbeth P3ESR or Monitor 30?
I ended up auditioning both, and have gone with the P3ESR. While both speakers predictably have strengths and weaknesses, let me begin by saying that the assertions in the above post are ludicrous. I don’t mean to suggest that the other speakers m...
B&W 805 D3
Thanks for the experience. Much appreciated. Looks like the new 805 D3 Continuum isn't exactly a significant step-up from the previous D2 model judging from the responses here. It has been quite a while since I moved on from B&Ws. My first pai...
Dynaudio's best sounding bookshelf between $500-1000
freediver209 posts03-06-2016 10:33amI have owned Audience 42,52SE & Focus 110's.I always felt(when driven by SS)that they could lean towards stridency when pushed hard. For small -medium speakers with a BIG sound similar to Dynaudio have ...
Harbeth P3ESR or Monitor 30?
The plot thickens...I am very close to making a decision, but have received some strong, contrary opinions on the Harbeth forum. Not that the P3 isn't held in very high regard – it is. But that the M30 is a better speaker overall, and that the...
Upgrade from Proac Response 1SC?
@cooper52 I heard both the D2 and the D20r this weekend. Side by side, the D2 sounded *just* a little strained and the D20R had much more of a "live-sounding" feel. Think this is what some folks refer to as "presence". It felt like a living b...
Are Naim speakers worth the money
Old thread almost 9 years old. Speakers are such a personal thing and it is quite impossible to say if Naim speakers are worth the money if they do not sound good to the listener. Naim gear especially the amplifiers are great. Only disadvantage is...
Harbeth vs JM Reynaud
10-11-15: Zd542You can't fix a high frequency timber problem with room acoustics. I've tried to do this many times. The directionality of the high frequencies just doesn't allow for it. There's a direct line of sight between the ear and the tweete...
Harbeth vs JM Reynaud
Buying tubes doesn’t guarantee anything. You can still have the same exact problem with tubes in the chain. If you're looking for a "warm and smooth" sound, you can just as easily get it with solid state.Looking at the Jade 3 bright/harsh issue, m...
Harbeth vs JM Reynaud
10-10-15: Wim1983@Ryder: if a speaker sound too analytical and ruthlessly revealing, any solution to tame those extra details using preamp? Or it would be difficult to find such gear and do the matching? I see Harbeth is very forgiving if you just...
Harbeth vs JM Reynaud
It's all horses for courses when it comes to listening taste and preferences. The poster of this thread prefers the sound of the Harbeth M30.1 over the Compact 7 and Super HL5 but I find the M30.1 to sound too thick and shut-in for my preference. ...
Harbeth sound with high wife acceptance factor?
CTkeene - good that you finally settled down with the Devores. For what it's worth, I own both Harbeth and Dalis(SHL5 and Mentor Menuets). The Dali's midrange is no where near the Harbeth and sounded unnatural next to it.
Harbeth Owners which model?
Smatsui, I appreciate your experience with both SHL5 and M40.1 in the same room and with the same equipment. And I agree about the significance of WAF that varies with individuals. Yes, my room has a ceiling height of 8 to 9 feet. Your room certai...
Harbeth Owners which model?
I own the SHL5s in a large open living room. The main living space is 20' x 40'. I have listened to the M40.1 couple of times at my friend's place, also in a large room. Personally I prefer the SHL5s. For me, the SHL5s are about the largest speake...
