Upgrade sugestion please
Harbeth is excellent with classic rock. With hard rock and metal there are other speakers that can be rock harder though the smoother and forgiving Harbeth can actually be a good thing. You can actually fit a SHL5 in that room though a safe choice...
Bi-wires links for speakers ?
You’ll get many different opinions on this. Yes, it is true that some manufacturers don’t believe in biwiring. Although Harbeth does not believe in biwring, they have provided biwiring terminals on most of their speakers to satisfy market demands....
What DIN to RCA Cable (for Naim CD Player) do you guys use?
I use Naim amps instead of Naim sources, so I use an RCA to DIN instead of DIN to RCA. The better Chord cables Signature and higher are good stuff.Apart from Chord, you can check out Flashback Sales cables. Great sound for not a lot of money.
Pat Metheny Fans, Great Suggestions Please ??
Nobody mentioned "The Falcon and the Snowman" in this thread. Just tried this one and the music is superb!
Harbeth & VAC combo
Just to clarify. I had the Rega Elicit Mk2 and Krell KPS-30i with the SHL5s. It was a subpar combination which sounded a little dull in my experience. I have read about the newer Brio-R and Elicit-R(Mk3) sounding more lively and forward than the o...
Harbeth & VAC combo
Adrianob, Since you already have the Naim Unitilite for the P3ESR, best is to go with something else other than Naim. The C7ES3 is one of my favourite Harbeth speakers alongside the SHL5 Plus. I have listened to the Leben CS600 at a friend’s place...
Harbeth & VAC combo
Since you predominantly listen to vocals and small ensemble, the better tube amps might do a better job than your current Naim. I do not have experience with Sugden but have read about their smooth and warm sounding signature. Which Naim amp do yo...
Warm-up time for amps and preamps
Yes, frequent switching on and off in some ways can be more detrimental than leaving the amp permanently on. It depends on what components we are talking about as capacitors or transistors of certain amplifiers can last very long, well over 20 yea...
Which pre should I choose?
You could mix and match with different preamp and power amp though it's a question of personal preference. Personally I would rather stick with the same manufacturer for both pre and power for synergy and/or compliance with technical specification.
Warm-up time for amps and preamps
How long does it take for your system to sound good from a cold start?I try to keep my system on most of the time. But occasionally I turn it off and it sounds like crap for a good half-hour to an hour.i know there has been discussion here on the ...
Opinions on PMC vs. Neat, Monitor Audio
I was going to suggest an amplifier upgrade until I noticed your setup is not exactly conventional with the speakers placed on a desk. Any full-sounding monitors wound be more appropriate than lean and analytical sounding designs for near-field se...
Dynaudio C1 compared to Harbeth Super HL5 plus?
Haven’t compared them side by side but have listened to them in separate systems. I have listened to the C1s at a hifi show many years ago and have listened to all Harbeth models from the P3ESR to the M40.1. To each his own. In the simplest choice...
speakers for listener with Tinnitus
Harbeth M30.1. The highs are smooth as silk and listening fatigue is extremely low. Human voice is as good as you can get with this speaker.
Dynaudio C1 compared to Harbeth Super HL5 plus?
Yes Pdreher, I do not find the SHL5plus to sound warm too. Though many who are used to lean and bright sounding speakers such as Revels, Magicos etc. will find the Harbeth to sound slightly (or overly) warm. Personally I find the Harbeth to sound ...
Dynaudio C1 compared to Harbeth Super HL5 plus?
I have listened to both in separate systems but have not compared both side by side. You have to listen to the speakers in your own system to determine if you like them. A note is the SHL5plus is quite a bit better than the SHL5. An overall more v...
