Best Headphone system under $1000???
I really like my old Stax Electrostatic headphones and their amp to drive them.    I'll admit I am biased toward them, but it wouldn't hurt you to start your listening / shopping experience with them and move on from there.   Do check out headphon...
The Carver Amp Challenge and the 21st Century and it's Failure
The Defense rests our case........  :-)
Headphone Driver Balance? (Single Driver)
There are several issues with headphone design - they have to be lightweight, they have a tiny area to fill with sound, so those long wavelengths have trouble developing in that tiny space, and most buyers choose headphones based on cost.   In add...
Anyone had the equipment customized ?
That is the often thought philosophy.   It is a small amount of ESR, which dissipates the noise energy as heat, rather than dumping onto the ground plane and causing ground bounce.   Sure, a cap with large ESR can cause a spike on the chips power ...
The Carver Amp Challenge and the 21st Century and it's Failure
@Elizabeth, @Lowrider - I think I can shed some light on Bob Carver "haters", although I think the term "hater" is really too harsh, at least for me.   I met Bob at a CES show many years ago.   We were both a lot younger then and back then he had ...
Maybe amps need a third terminal?
I have often wondered the same thing about remote sensing feedback.   Out here in CA, many years ago, a small start up called Street's Electronics built a 200W amp (I think it was 200W) and it used a small percentage of current feedback to compens...
Any experience with this amplifier?
I have no experience with it and the price seems too good to be true.   So, for me, I'd be suspicious - especially since it is from out of the country.
The Carver Amp Challenge and the 21st Century and it's Failure
Yeah, that was part of the story.   It started with a bold claim from Carver stating his amplifier was indistinguishable from a tube unit.  I believe Peter Aczel picked up the story in his review magazine, The Audio Critic.   When it wasn't the sa...
Anyone had the equipment customized ?
That does make a lot of sense.  Rail to ground decoupling caps work much better at killing noise when they have a moderate amount of ESR in them while DC Blocking caps passing a signal work best when ESR is held to a minimum.
Speaker cables for Martin Logan Montis
Oh, an inverter man!  Awesome.  I'm an analog design guy, board level, so discreet semi's, op amps, high power analog, amplifiers, & PCBA's are where I live.   I do have a second degree in embedded processors, although I haven't done much prog...
Anyone had the equipment customized ?
When I was modifying equipment and making money at it, I found some horrible stuff that came in from folks who someone modify it but didn't know what they were doing.   One crossover came in the shop and the guy used acid core solder on all the co...
Need Receiver Help: High Quality Ampification & DAC, Digital input to Zone 2, Older is OK
Sarsicism has a point.  If that second DAC is to your liking, you do have a solution.
Speaker cables for Martin Logan Montis
Well, I'm sorry, I don't have a recommendation for you for a particular cable.  What I do when searching for a cable is I look at the inductance and capacitance of the cable, assuming the manufacturer specifies it, and how it is made, the dielectr...
Speaker cables for Martin Logan Montis
That is not exactly correct.   The formula is XL = 6.28 x F x L, so  you can see that the impedance of an inductor drops with frequency.   So they become a dead short at low frequencies.   So the frequency where the inductor has an impact is F = (...
Meridian Trifield?
I can't comment on reliability of Meridian products, as I am not familiar with them.  Regarding the center channel for two channel playback, it does require an additional speaker and another amplifier, which is mono.   Center is R+L and you can ad...
