BTW...I would suggest that spending the $800 that you plan to spend on power cords for your XA-60.5 amps would be probably better spent by increasing your preamp budget to $3300.FWIW...

I would recommend placing the requirement of fully differential balanced circuitry at the top of your preamp feature list. Balanced pays dividends with these amps. 
To mod or not to mod a Sony SCD1
Complete waste of money at this stage of the game.You'd be better off buying a new Sony 5400ES, IMO.

I'm lucky. I'm of the opinion that I haven't overspent for anything, and that every component and every speaker that has come through my system has been worth the price paid if for no other reason than the learning experience it offered.
