Odyssey Mono Extremes SE Which input to use?
I use single ended on mine and have been happy. I have heard where some have found that using XLR's has resulted in a hum. As these units are not "true" balanced I would suspect that when the XRL's are used a ground loop has been introduced into s...
Problem with soundstage up near ceiling.
Your overall low ceiling height might be the big culprit here. Have you tried playing with the feet adjusters (spikes or whatever) to position the tweeters at more of a downward angle rather than level to your listening position? Also toe in or to...
Hard of Hearing Headphones for TV
I picked a pair of Sony MDRRF970RK 900 MHz Analog RF Wireless Headphones for my 98 year old mother and she really likes them. These come with a recharging stand have been working well for 2 years now.
Flat Screen Recommendations: 50 to 60 inch
If you are looking for the "BEST" picture and stock sound from a large format monitor then I suggest a Pioneer Elite Kuro. I have had the 50" for 2 years now and I have not seen anything come out lately that better's it. Great sound to boot.
Replacement Plasma Cord, Shielding???
Well I was a skeptic when it came to power codes until I took a leep of faith and upgraded the cable on my Pioneer Elite 50" and yes I noticed an improvement immediately. I didn't spend a lot of money on it, went with a Shanyata Venom (it is shiel...
Paradigm Studio 60 V5 Fingernails on Chalkboard
I've got 60V2's and thought I had made a terrible mistake but the speakers do take many hours to settle down and become listenable. My power source at the time was a NAD7100 receiver and it did an OK job but was still a bit harsh. I moved up to 20...
Has anyone listened to the Marantz sa8004?
Opinions on vintage Dual turntablesI still have and use a 501 that's got to be 35 to 40 years old, it still does a very fine job. I've had other makes that have come, gone and or died over the years but this thing is like the energizer bunny it ju...

great headphone amplification in vintage gear?
Any of the old NAD 7100 series receivers have a really good headphone amp in them.
Rotel RB1080 vs Odyssey Stratos vs McCormack DNA
Hello,Well I did listen to Rotel when I was looking to up grade, the Rotel although good seemed to have a very generic sound (mid-fi). I know the Odyssey is miles above the Rotel in both sound and internal parts quality. I was looking at both the ...
Sonic Frontiers - A Score or a Flushing?
Might I suggest:1) Remove tubes and take them to someone that can test them. If they test fine put them back in for now.2) If tubes are OK, see if you can find a tech/shop that can do some electrical testing to see if they can identify the problem...
Just ordered Odyssey Stratos Extreme
I have had the Extreme Mono's for 3 years now and am very happy with them. Did the same thing and ordered sight unseen or heard. I did speak to (by email) to a number of those that had used this product and they also spoke very highly of Klaus and...
Bryston BDA-1 DAC, any thoughts?
I bought one 2 weeks ago and am amazed at what the DAC has brought to my system. The BR2 remote (sold seperately) does not controll volume, sources only and must be used with a preamp. The BDA-1 is a great unit and is work a listen.
Question for Canadian members
I live in Vancouver BC and do order from the USA on occassion, if you use regular post either way (to or from) you're looking at least 10 days. UPS (ground) and the rest usually take 6 days or more. I just ordered something the other day from a ma...
I need SS muscle
I would second the use of Odyssey Stratos "Mono" Extreme SE's. I have a pair with a few extra upgrades Klaus did for me and they are fabulous! Lots of power and current, these should match really well with your VR4's. I use both a SF Line 2 SE+ (u...
