Ferrous damping weight OK?

I've got an 8lb shot put that sits in a nice cork ring...it's some kind of object de art, and the shot is made out of ferrous iron/steel.

Bad idea to use it as a damping weight?

Weights of metal were popular to put on big transformers.. they were called "VPI BRICKS" (I have 3 laying around)
The metal ties down stray electrical fields, and as a physical vibration dampener. It does not do any harm.
Your shot put should be fine on an equipment case.
Thats a lot of weight.Make sure the case and feet can support it.Keep an eye on heat buildup also.
