There was something special about SANSUI TUNERS that I could never identify, but I liked them the best. This is mainly a High End site, so apologies for mentioning the Sansui TU-217 — the number shows it's BOTL. I had it for years, never listened, thought it would be lousy: so "budget" it doesn't even have a lighted dial.
Then my T'Berg 3001 had to go for service. I tried the cheap Sansui. What a surprise! Rich, almost lush. Tonal colors vividly portrayed and differentiated: strings are strings, and reeds are reedy. Needs a strong signal, soundstage a bit smaller and lacks ultimate detail, but so much more than expected. Very satisfying, and Bruckner is a stiff test. I won't suffer while waiting for my "good" tuner to come home.
