The best speaker you ever heard?

In my opinion, the speaker is by far the most important part of the audio system. After all, it is the only part you hear. OK, the other stuff really matters a lot, but without a great speaker... No go.

I am a bit 'speaker-obsessed' I guess, and now I am wondering: What are the best speakers you have ever heard, and what made them the best?

Sorry to digress on this thread, but I just have to ask Howard (since you won't reply to my emails) if he was the Howard Parr on the music credits from the move Mysterious Skin?
Perhaps you should email Harold Budd, as he is credited with the music on Mysterious Skin.

Nope, the trailor credits indicated Howard Parr music consultant, I believe. But thanks for the info... :)
Indeed, you are correct! However, it's Howard Paar, not Howard Parr.
The speakers from Classic Audio Reproductions also utilize TAD drivers. They have several models, and at least one or two below $10k.

Ralph Karsten of Atma-Sphere owns a pair.
The title of the thread is, "the best speaker YOU ever heard?".

It's an opinion poll. It's not an attempt to empirically determine the best speaker, which of course is impossible.

Whisky Tango Foxtrot?

The drivers can be optioned with Field coil operation and there is a new first-order crossover using improved crossover components.
Does this apply to the smaller T1 speakers as well?
What size rooms do you gentlemen have for the Grand Veenas? How far from the speakers are your listening chairs?
Considering there is a far wider dynamic range in some orchestral music than there is in rock music, I have a hard time grasping how an excellent speaker for orchestral music would not also excel on rock music.

Is it sad......
It's sad that as a general group, audiophiles share obsessive compulsive tendencies to the extent that they're perpetually dissatisfied.

Satisfaction is a choice.

I dug my way outta this line of thought by realizing that hi-fi sounds fake... Once I came to terms with that, this gig became nothing more than a hunt for finding a flavor of fake that I could live with.
Yea! Me too!
