What's happened to the used high end market recently?? Sales are tough....:0(

The heading says it all!! What do you guys think is the reason that the sales in the used high end market have gone soft??
Prices too high? Economy too slow?? Stock market too volatile?? Something else??

Thoughts....

Personal experience:
In February I had $5 grand in checking account.
Foolishly I had spent two grand just in Dec on cables, just two pair)
Decided to buy something!
Was going to buy Magnepan 3.7i speakers to replace my 3.6. then I decide what the Hell! Why do a lateral! Go for the big boys and ordered a pair of Magnepan 20.7. So I charged $6000 as a deposit.
Got speakers, got new speakers to replace defect on first pair.
Paid off the $6K and worked on the remaining 8K BEFORE the interest rate kicked in.
Had it down to 4K and decided to refinance my paid off car at 2.99% rather than pay the outrageous 21% on the CC. Well. as long as I am financing hell get $11 grand.
So what to spend the other 7K on. I bought a Marantz SA-10.
My dealer said I did not need  new amps with my 20.7 or I might have spent the money on that. But I did need a better DAC. And the dealer loaned my the Marantz to try at home. wow, like it.

So since this February I spent $21,000 (plus tax) on stereo equipment. I am doing my part to support the industry.
Get out there and BUY something!
Now if only someone will buy my 3.6s*..
(*this is a joke and not a for sale advert.. Had to say that since no one repeat no one gets irony anymore. Sheesh.)
First off I love to listen to music. If I sell something, my main interest lay in getting the stuff I sell to someone who will really enjoy it. And has little to do with the best price. In the past I have found really great equipment at below market value, and from guys who also share my belief about the buyer enjoying it.   I see folks who have as a main purpose getting the last penny out of the stuff. I guess that makes them happy.... One point about eBay prices, plenty of folks park used stuff there with outrageous prices, and sit on it. Some day some fool with money will pay for it. Those items do not reflect the real world prices of motivated sellers who have a desire to sell soon.....Prices do reflect the supply and demand. Demand in USA is down.So what. I can still enjoy my stereo just as much, demand or no demand.
Well overpricing is a constant issue with resellers. When the used sales were all just folks selling off their own old equipment, the prices would be lower. I have purchased in the past, items at 25% of retail. easily. Now, most of the items for sale are from resellers. who all expect at least 50% of current price, or higher. Even higher than LIST for some "collectable" items. Their only interest in selling is to make a profit. Nothing wrong with that, but it does mean the prices are higher. And so people who actually BUY the equipment, baulk. Like I just bought a brand "A" device from a DEALER directly as they had a price $500 less than here. Why would that be? Because Agon is now a boutique store, Since clearly Audiophiles are just loaded with all sorts of cash.  So IMO if stuff is not selling? The folks who are expecting to make a bigger than reasonable profit can accept the blame.
