Zd542. With respect, I think your understanding of Durkheim falls extremely short. He did not "make up whatever." He did not "start with the solution you desire."

Furthermore, had Durkheim written nothing but The Elementary Forms, his place in the history of sociological thought would have been secured. The two major themes of the work, and more than a dozen provocative hypotheses have stimulated the interest and excitement of several generations of sociologists irrespective of theoretical "school" or field of specialization.
Durkheim was hardly a fraud, good sir. Rather, I submit he was a pioneer with a brilliant mind and intellect.

Most of what you refer to as the "hypothetico deductive model" has to do with suicide. A topic that is completely distasteful and unsuitable for this thread. It has no business here.

My point in mentioning Durkheim is the division of labor which clearly applies to Hegel components being manufactured in China.

If you think the topic of suicide is inappropriate, then you shouldn't have brought it up. And you are incorrect in claiming that the Hypothetico Deductive Model is used mostly in suicide analysis. Its a general theory that's meant to be applied in many different fields of research. (That is if you're dumb enough to use it.)

I know from past experience that debating a topic like this using facts is pointless. Facts that work against you will be ignored or twisted, and facts that support your argument will come by whatever means necessary. So I'm not getting into any senseless back and forth because nothing good will come of it. Here's the standard definition that wikipedia offers, and it should be clear enough to understand by anyone not pushing some agenda.

"The hypothetico-deductive model or method is a proposed description of scientific method. According to it, scientific inquiry proceeds by formulating a hypothesis in a form that could conceivably be falsified by a test on observable data. A test that could and does run contrary to predictions of the hypothesis is taken as a falsification of the hypothesis. A test that could but does not run contrary to the hypothesis corroborates the theory. It is then proposed to compare the explanatory value of competing hypotheses by testing how stringently they are corroborated by their predictions.

One example of an algorithmic statement of the hypothetico-deductive method is as follows:[1]

1. Use your experience: Consider the problem and try to make sense of it. Gather data and look for previous explanations. If this is a new problem to you, then move to step 2.
2. Form a conjecture (hypothesis): When nothing else is yet known, try to state an explanation, to someone else, or to your notebook.
3. Deduce predictions from the hypothesis: if you assume 2 is true, what consequences follow?
4. Test (or Experiment): Look for evidence (observations) that conflict with these predictions in order to disprove 2. It is a logical error to seek 3 directly as proof of 2. This formal fallacy is called affirming the consequent.[2]

One possible sequence in this model would be 1, 2, 3, 4.
