Subwoofer for classical music listener

If one's sub can be integrated using a mere 1st order high-pass filter (6dB/octave), there is a simple, easy, transparent way to accomplish that. Just solder a capacitor of the correct value (the formula for determining that value can be found on the 'net---it involves the power amp's input impedance and the desired corner frequency) on the power amps input jacks.

rv--glad you like it, so far.  quick, easy way to try an option you already had available.  could have just as easily gone the other way (a lot of folks prefer what whart outlined (I do, too, in some configurations)).  perhaps relieving your amp and mains of the "stress" of producing the low bass and/or easing the integration outweighs any nasties the crossover or additional cabling might add.  as bdp and others have noted, there are other, perhaps better, ways to try to accomplish the same thing, but you already had this one in your pocket.

As I'm listening to the high pass option of the SVS, I can't believe the improvement in transparency over the standard hookup.  The qualities of my system are shining through. I keep waiting for he other shoe to drop!
Hopefully, it won't.

@rvpiano, congrats on finding a compatible sub. When they are properly integrated, they really make all the difference- And, no other shoe will drop.
