Short distance relieves many problems, and silver that you already gots seems fine. I would be more concerned about cleaning.
Which turntable?
VPI Scout or Pro-Ject Debut II
Linn sondek, LP12?
Clearaudio Aurum Beta S, Linn Akiva, Ortophon Kontrapunkt
Music you would like to turn someone on to.
The Good Rats played at my HS prom in NY. I found their records in Sedona, AZ. Great stuff!
AR Turntable ToneArm
Ditto Linn Basik.
RRL Cleaner, Vinyl Zyme, and Groove Glide
I clean only used records I buy. New ones and those in my collection from new do not seem to need washing. Just the aq carbon brush and a cleaned stylus. Also, the zyme is great for mildewy records. I use Last rather than gg, but have not compared...
RIP Elmer Bernstein
A nice guy sure. But not only down to earth. He was very much the super New York urbane artist. Today his speaking voice would sound rather affected. But he could connect with the west and the underworld. Adios, Elmer...

bought a linn axis with basic arm...good cart.
I agree with k-9 and Ortophon. Also, the Clearaudio Aurum Beta s.

How did you get started?
I was on the school playground after lunch when a dirty man in a raincoat approached me. "Hey kid, I want you to try something. Don't worry, I'm not gonna take nothin from ya." And he slips me a slim package in a brown wrapper. "If ya want more, t...
I Hardly Listen to Music Anymore
I keep the radio on while I work. But I have fallen into the not listening dump. I think for me it is because I do not have friends who like music the way I did when I lived in NYC. Music listening was both serious and social. I do hear new things...
Your favorite J.S. Bach
The Art of the Fugue, traditional by the Emerson, but there is a twenty year old funky Lucas Foss version done in two releases, a multi mike and a three mike.
Analog Set-up Tools
The Mo-Fi Geo-Disc has served me well
