impedance matching--could you dumb it down 4 me?
I've been learning--i hope--about impedence matching and have been studying Transformer Volume Controls. According to my source, a tvc's input impedence is dependent in part on its load. Does anyone know if this is true for other gain stages (TVC'...
Straight wire and gain linestage?
Sorry, Bob. I wasn't making a joke. I'm dyslexic and I thought, maybe he's dyslexic too. I found a Lead preamp with Russian tubes in the volume control, which I thought was funny. They were guarranteed for 90 days. But then I found the ELAD. It lo...
Straight wire and gain linestage?
OK. I don't know how to predict the outcome of those issues. I'll probably have to try one. Thanks. Lynne
Straight wire and gain linestage?
6 decibels of gain would be enough, I'm sure. I've got Rothwell attenuators on the amp right now. It's a goal to get rid of those eventually, but I've got four of them on the 4 channel amp because in the interum I refoamed my AR 9's and have them ...
Straight wire and gain linestage?
Hi, Pubul. I found your thread where you talked about the K & K. I found the Prommitheus. It's probably what I should get. I thought I should check out gain stages first. I'm sort of a doubter now on the passives. But the tvc might work. Lynne...
Straight wire and gain linestage?
Bob, Did you mean LEAD? Lynne
Straight wire and gain linestage?
I probably need some gain. The output impedence is high on my CD player and input impedence low on amp. I also need a fair amt of input impedence on linestage. I've got an old preamp on the system right now with 33 K ohm input impedence. Seems to ...
Selector switches?
Thanks, everyone. Found the Grayhill. Will check out the others. Lynne
Selector switches?
Yeah. Thanks. I'll check it out. Lynne
Getting back to members on passive vs active lines
Addendum: I get it. Output impedence is a characteristic of frequency and is effected by components ie tubes or ss components. Hope I stated that correctly.
Getting back to members on passive vs active lines
Rodman99999, Thanks. I found the review/test results on the Cary. I haven't found a review yet on the 7600 but it would be interresting to get measurements on it. I did remove the Rothwells from the preamp's inputs and I think maybe I won't need t...
Getting back to members on passive vs active lines
It's a Harman Kardon HD7600ll made between '90-'92. I bought it like new in the box from a member a few months ago. It was highly regarded but I couldn't afford it back then. It ran circles around my Simaudio Moon Equinox--made it sound and look l...
Are passive preamps better?
Gregm, ok. Yes, the amps spec is given as 1.1V@22K ohm input impedence. On the CDP, if you meant,"did I read it wrong", apparently not. The HD7600ll's output impedence is given as LINE- 2.0V@10k ohms. I thought the other player was the same, but n...
Are passive preamps better?
I think it is well established that I don't know anything, but if the analogue components could control the cable, then we could not hear the cable. But there is a whole industry based on the fact that cables have a sound. I never understood the r...
Are passive preamps better?
Good thing I re-read. Atmasphere's discussion of a preamps inability to control the cable. I reconnected the preamp, but this time I ran the variable output to the preamp in. The sound is improved over the fixed output. Maybe that's because the si...
