Should I buy a Class A Amp.
Could it be said that Class A amps, like Pass for example, play better on certain types of music? Better classical than rock, for instance? As mentioned earlier, no.The idea that an amp can be better at one form of music as opposed to another is o...
Loudspeakers have we really made that much progress since the 1930s?
EVs, Klipsch, Altec and JBL all are not 1930s. The Altec A7 you use as a example of poor bass its again not a 1930s design but is a affordable down sized design so expecting that to have deep bass and to be a example of design faults from the 1...
Tube Phono Stage with balls, and slam!!
As someone else mentioned, getting enough voltage gain overall in your system is paramount in obtaining optimal sonics, and I personally like tubed phono stages like my Manley Steelhead phono stage Just for the record, the Steelhead is a hybrid ...
Help wanted: Bass!
I conferred with CJ was told that phase inversion is necessary; it’s the configuration I’ve been running though - check.Connections are secure – check.***Speaker cable length….hmmm, maybe a bit of a problem here. For aesthetic purposes (again, t...
Help wanted: Bass!
Since this has not been mentioned:The first thing to check is the phase!! Try swapping the red for black connections on the back of the speaker (one channel only), put on a record with some bass impact and see if the bass is better or worse. If th...

Atmasphere cant do bass right! Maybe wee ones dont but full sized sure do. Less detailed maybe if you dont add a tweeter keep in mind these designs were only good to 8khz. Dont handle power well! What the heck dude that one boggles my mind its ...
SS to valve
With the efficiency of your speakers in most rooms, the fact is you need power. Given the prior comments here, 60 watts would seem to be adequate in most cases. 1.5 watts OTOH is simply not enough. You would want about 12 db more efficiency to mak...

Mapman whats missing-  realistic sound quality, the ability to allow listener to feel the emotion of the music. The ability to easily hear the mix ie pick out the individual instruments and vocals along with the added studio work. Realistic ima...
???Why The HUGE Discrepancy in Sensitivity Ratings???
With any panel speaker the measurement is done the same way as it is with a point source speaker. What happens is most of the sound made by the speaker is not picked up by the microphone. Examples of this are the Magnaplanars, Martin-Logans, and al...

The Theil-Small parameters is something that has changed! It makes predicting the performance of a driver in a box possible. Prior to these specs, sorting out the right size for a port opening in a box was experience and guesswork. This has lead t...
Synergistic Research Atmosphere Power Cords.
Would also seem to make sense that the wring in most homes must be well suited in this regard otherwise that would have to be the bottleneck and that mass produced wiring can't cost much in comparison to many audiophile products. So I gotta  wo...
tube monoblocks and preamp recommendations
Do you know the db and ohm for my 19s? The speaker is 8 ohms and 99-100 db. It has a few bumps in the bass region where the impedance is a bit higher- typical of a bass reflex. This is a very tube-friendly speaker!

The system will have to fill that space behind you. In a case like this I would go with more power rather than less.
I have an uber awesome amp, why buy a speaker with a built in woofer sub-woofer amp
I've yet to find an amplifier that plays bass as well as the amps I have. So I tend to prefer speakers that have deep bass response. The speakers I have at home go to 20 Hz and are easy to drive- 98 db, and my amps have full power to 2 Hz so I can...
I used to think passive preamps were superior to active preamps given right the setup, but
^^ the above statement is false if taken as a generalization. You may refer to my last two posts as to why.
