Denon 2900 w/ external dac
Universal players often have the problem of playing SACD extremely well and redbook CD very poorly. You may improve it by modding it, but if your collection is mostly CD, then an outboard DAC may make sense, such as a modded MSB or modded Perpetua...

Jitter issues with dacs....
Andy2 - I am referring to a large FIFO buffer at the DAC, not in the transport. If this is in place, then the data can be clocked out of this buffer independent of the speed of the drive, virtually eliminating jitter, assuming the read clock is ve...
Jitter issues with dacs....
Kana813 - no I have not measured the jitter. I would like to, but I need some equipment that I cannot currently afford in order to do this....Eldartford is correct. Solving the jitter problem only requires FIFO buffering at the desination. However...
sound of jitter
Onhwy61 - these devices usually reduce jitter, they do not eliminate it.Jitter can sound like high-frequency sibilance or like echoes or halos around the instruments.
Jitter issues with dacs....
Jitter is a problem with virtually all Transports, particularly stock. Jitter is also increased with lossy S/PDIF cabling. It is aggravated by systems that are not properly impedance matched as well.I can only speak for myself - I can plainly hear...
Looking for an outstanding DAC
Why don't you mod the transport?
Perpetual Tech. gears
The P-3A uses 9V AC. The P-1A uses 12V AC. You would have to modify the circuit board to insert DC.
Interconnects: Silver, Copper or Silver Plated?
Bear hit the nail on the head and I agree with his analysis completely. To make a high-performance interconnnect, it takes geometry (to optimize R,L,C), optimized dielectrics to reduce dielectric absorption and finally good metallurgy (this can be...

Digital jitter and disk treament tweak
Laziness - I doubt that. The problem is how to deliver all of the current features of typical CD players and use a cache-based system to do it. This is not a trivial exercise. The buffer management must be done with an imbedded processor to get al...
Digital jitter and disk treament tweak
Eldartford wrote:"The serial data would go into a buffer register and then clocked out at a perfectly uniform rate. Perhaps the common CD player is not built this way, although I can't imagine why not."You are correct that this technique would yie...
Impendance - Resistance & the story of "Z"
Sen - good job, however mentioning characteristic impedance is also useful. For low-frequency analog signals, impedance is important, because is represents AC resistance. For high-frequency signals, a phenomenon know as characteristic impedance co...
Can sibilance be eliminated?
Stehno - I have no audible sibilance in my CD playback system. I also recently modded a Shanling T200 and the sibilance is gone...
Transport for Scott Nixon Tubedac+
No stock transport compares to an old EA modded Sony DVP-S7700. Stock transports have very slow risetimes and are not matched well to 75 ohms.
