Linn Sondek LP12 impressions
There are tables such as Clearaudio, Brinkmann and AMG that would get my money before a blown LP12 but that is just a personal preference. I own a Clearaudio and am equally impressed with the other German tables. If you go British and suspended, I...
Linn Sondek LP12 impressions
DaveyF. Early Linns were notiorious for going out of tune, not only in the UK but also here in Canada. Remember the basic design was not terribly well built. Lightweight wooden frame. Not terribly well braced. The Axis was a clean sheet design and...
Linn Sondek LP12 impressions
Linn has been a reference standard for years. Not that it is the best but most serious vinyl enthusiasts have heard one and can benchmark other tables against it. I had Axis and LP12 Valhalla and actually preferred the cheaper table. It was tidier...
What is a good entry level turntable?
I got a $350 Pro-Ject Essentail2 in March. It is fabulous sounding and does not embarrass itself in from of tpmy Rega P5 or Clearaudio Concept. It comes with a competent Ortofon OM5 cartridge which is the 900 lb gorilla of the budget cartridge mar...
Anne Bisson Blue Mind LP, is it all that we think?
I got her to autograph my copy. I actual bought the album for the music. Nice light jazz like Claire Martin. As she is Canadian, Ms Bisson is at TAVES, the Toronto audio show each year. I will get her other LP this year. Her stuff is often payed i...
B & W CM10
I use the Atlas line on my B&Ws. I do use Kimber 8PR on my smaller system with Proac speakers. Both sets are biwired.
Know anything about Rogers LS7?
Beautiful speaker from the 1980s. Use a clean powered amp and good stands. Very revealing, lightly warm sounding. Box resonances can be excited easily so keep away from walls. Really for large rooms. I ran the slightly smaller 6a.
Entry level turntable
Please considering increasing your budget to the Project Essential2 for about $350 plus tax. I would not play records on anything cheaper, although the Music Hall would probably be adequate if properly isolated. The Project is a real quality hifi ...
when to get new stylus
That is actually a MM, a fancy version of the Sumiko Pearl. Time for a new tip. The Pearl tip should fit but the 201 tip is not much more. That cartridge is a very old design dating back to the 1970s. In Canada it was also sold as a Coral or Andan...
Pro-Ject turntables
I run Clearaudio, Technics, Rega and Project tables. Each one tells you something different about your records. I have a new Pro-ject Essential2 for my small system and I am very impressed. I upgraded the cartridge tip to an OM20 and it sound very...
B & W CM10
B&W and Mac is a good combo and Cm10 is a really decent speaker. I use a Mac integrated with the older 700 series floor stander.
Mini-monitors $5,000 - $10,000
The new PM1 and Diamond 805 scale down from the full range B&Ws very well. PM1 is something of a bargain for a super mini. Smaller Raidho should be in scope budget wise and a good match since Nordost demonstrate their wares with those speakers...
Clearaudio MM specs rolled back?
I run multiple AT95 variants. They all sound different. I currently use the LP Gear version called AT95se in dark green plastic body which replaced the yellow body AT95ce. The move to a elliptical tip from conical means more midrange detail but th...
Best phono preamp under $500?
Clearaudio Nano. Made in Germany. Small high quality and neutral sounding.
Rega P25 vs Clearaudio Concept?
No just different flavours. Concept has better speed and pitch stability while the Rega sounds warmer and more textured.
