Define power hungry...B&W speakers
I use the 700 series which replace the CDMA NT. Both use the Nautilus tweeter (NT). I also own 600 and 800 series and these are a sweet spot. Easy to drive like 600 series but much more refined. You do not need a massive amp but a good 100 wpc int...

Yes to the Rp3. If that old Philips table is working OK, buy a decent cartridge and buy records. Those old tables were actually quite good.
Why so many linn lp12s for sale
The Pro-jects are my favorite all rounders but the Clearaudio excels for classical and instrumental. I always like the sound of my Linn. No question about that. Rega 3 is a nice table but even my stock Rega 5 was not in the same league as my LP12 ...

Assume you live in NZ? The going out of tune issue is real in countries like Canada where we can have up to 60 decree C swing in temperature from winter to summer and the corresponding HVAC/humidy issues that causes in an average Canadian home. My...

My P1 has no quality issues but I would still get the best turntable money can buy. I would suggest saving more money and moving right up to the RP6. Just buy a low costs Nagaoka MP110 and a couple of tone arm shims rather than one of Rega's own c...
Why so many linn lp12s for sale
To be fair, the modern Linns are better built. Sota was great sounding table. A lot tighter and more even sounding but I have not seen them up here in Canada for years while the Linn is still widely available.
B&W DM600
Nice budget model from the 1990s. Not much bass but good detail and balance. Use with warm sounding equipment. Which version is this the early one with the poly woofer or the later one with the Kevlar?
Why so many linn lp12s for sale
There were quite a few on Canuck Audio Mart as well. A couple of really cheap ones too in really decent shape. I think suspended tables generally are not as popular as they were back in the day. Today so many of us use record weights and periphery...
Grado Stylus Upgrade
When you say the old cartridge sounded better, in what sense?I owned the Grado and Thorens combo played through a Rega Elex and it sounded a bit overly warm and lethargic with my vintage B&W speakers. all good components bult too much of a goo...
floor-stander speaker for "classical"
My room is the same size and I use B&Ws which are well regarded for classical music. I would try the 600 series and CMs. For classical music, I like BBC school designs such as Spendor, Harbeth, Stirling etc. or of of the more modern variants s...
Super Cheap Placeholder Cartridge
That's easy if you are a Grado fan like me. Get a Green1. They are $90 in Canada but I am sure they cost less in the US. The Black1 is good but the higher spec ones in each Grado Prestige series pair always sound better. My favorite super elcheapo...
Pro-ject speedbox: Is improvement worth the $ ?
I used a Speedbox 2 on my Debutt III and 2 Xperience and in both cases sound stage became more 3d, bass articulation was tight and it yielded blacker backgrounds. I use Proac and B&W speakers which are both fairly revealing so the differences ...
Linn Sondek LP12 impressions
Actually quite a number of my records could not be tracked by this table. The same cartridge on a different table had not issue. The particular record is one I used to take with to test at dealers. I was actually looking to buy a new model thinkin...
Linn Sondek LP12 impressions
The cartridges were likely set up correctly by an excellent Linn dealer. Mine was tuned up by the fellow considered number one in the area. My $200 plastic Technics P mount with elcheapo cartridge can play the record. The fact that. $4k turntable ...
Linn Sondek LP12 impressions
Cartridges were Linn Adikt and Klyde. $500 and $4k respectively here in Canada. On my Linn my Linn Basik, K5 and Sumiko Blue Point cartridges could not track it. The same cheapo Linn Basik cartridge had no trouble on a different table, a Revolver ...
