Speaker suggestions for less than ideal accoustics
I know a guy with a similar setup. He has ATC active 100's which can play 120dB continuous. I've seen ATC active 50's for about $7k a few years ago. Maybe the active 20's??Forget the passive models.
Listening Fatique- componet or speaker issue.
Tim, I used to agree with you about material. But now decided bright is bright, and soft vs. hard materials will not change that IMHO.Although metal may add additional ringing and hardness, soft dome with rising response will still be bright.
Is live reproduction the goal of audio?
Lakefrontroad wrote "I am interested in how our community views what we do." Except for Jax2 who tries to inject a laxative into this constipated thread.Sociallite has many good insights, I wish I was so good at writing. The common goal here seems...

I agree with Gmood1. Your speaker's peak into the 5-10K area can (1) be irritating in its own right, (2) will accentuate harshness in your source or amp (NAD is low powered and could get harsh if pushed), (3) be aggravated by room reflections.Othe...
is it sacrilege?
I would suggest heavy brass - have you ever heard of / seen Totem Beaks? They actually improve the sound by reducing cabinet vibrations. It's a win-win situation.
Speakers That Will Party Hard
Tomryan, instead of JBL (very harsh) try Dynaudio BM-6A $1,699 / Warfdale pro active $339 / Genelec 8030A $599 which put out almost bass as the big Dyn's. They all have serious bass impact being active monitors even if you don't need the volumes.B...

RAW AcousticsHaven't heard their stuff but seem like pretty sharp designers.
Has sonic perfection been acheived?
Thanks Drew, very useful. How did you calculate those numbers? So the purpose of a line array is to give more volume? How about more detail or bass extension?Cwlondon oh yea, forgot about that one. What the heck are we all doing here :-).
Has sonic perfection been acheived?
Dlwask, LOL, the perfect definition of perfect, yea that's what I'm after. What is The Absolute Sound? I would offer that it's a single driver point source which can reproduce the entire FR from 20hz-20kHz with ruler flat FR. The little Jordan alm...
Best Tweaks.....
The foot sanding stone looks like a porous piece of ceramic. Extremely light weight but hard as stone. The porousity eliminates any resonances. You may want to start with 3. Put them 22% in from the edges of your component which is the approximate ...
CD-R discs for music
Nice call jea48, aggielaw, bombaywalla. I picked up the CDR-pros at Walmart; 10 for $8.00. Good to try 10 before getting 50 and they included cases so the price wasn't too bad.Jea48, the Maxell CDR-pro are the same dark blue-green color as my olde...
