Looking for "realistic" speakers
Vu is very knowledgeable and you will get to hear some really good speakers. He was a huge Cary dealer at one time, might still be, and he knew Dennis well. I bought my first Set of Cary gear and Spendor speakers from him.FWIW I have heard the Sal...
Looking for "realistic" speakers
Not sure where you are in Maryland but if you can get to Déjà Vu Audio in McLean, VA go over and have a listen. They carry a nice line of speakers including Audio Note, Spendor, ProAc and Quad. I think the classic British monitor sound might app...
Need help determining next upgrade - 3rd ATTEMPT
I had a room similar to this at one time. It was not easy to set up but what worked for me was using the Audio Physics method of speaker placement. It may be worth looking up and trying out. Almarg has suggested similar points in his post. Unfortu...

Resolution Audio - Cantata
What issues are you having with gapless playback on the Cantata? I have been playing gapless files on mine.
I-Tunes-type software
I am pretty sure that Audirvana, Pure Music, and Amarra only work with OSX and iTunes as the library. JRiver was originally developed for PC and is now Mac compatible.Macdonj - try the JRiver software out for a bit. I think you will like it. At th...
I-Tunes-type software
JRiver has integer mode support for the latest OSX Mavericks. Mac brought back this feature for the Mavericks release. Previously I think you needed Snow Leopard or earlier.Unless you need to be married to iTunes the move to JRiver will be worthwh...
Ripping software for 2014
If using a Mac XLD is probably your best and maybe only choice, outside of ripping with iTunes. On PC you have lots more choices. Check out the Empirical Audio and Computer Audiophile websites for more information. These are very good sources of i...
I-Tunes-type software
Audirvana, Amarra, and Pure Music all work with iTunes. Of these I preferred Audirvana. All have a trial so you can check them out and see how they handle Beethoven. FWIW I have moved on to JRiver to get off iTunes altogether.
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
I hid my unit under my bed and my wife stepped on it and sliced up her toes very bad...I am not going to ask because I don't even want to know.
Are all asynchronous USB inputs similar?
Davide256, I am with you on this one. I did like my set up with my USB converter, but UPnP via hard wired Ethernet is amazing me. Mac Mini with JRiver as the media server and library, Resolution Audio Cantata as the renderer, using either PlugPlay...
Calling all Horn lovers
The Edgarhorns are very interesting speakers. We have a couple sets at the shop Dr. Edgar made for Jack Elliano. We use them to test our 45 amp. In a couple weeks we will be visiting with Dr. Edgar who is interested in hearing our 300B on his set ...
Are all asynchronous USB inputs similar?
From my research I am not convinced taking the SPDIF output from the motherboard is the best approach, and I was never convinced USB was either, although I have used it extensively in the last 6 month because of the convenience. Not that guys like...
transformers/output impedance
To be clear, the use of a transformer can indeed reduce the output impedance, but there is a myth that adding loop negative feedback will too. It doesn't. I'll explain that further if anyone asks. That is what I always felt and have taken a lot of ...
