Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
The MLA is in production as is the voltage adjustable OTL preamp. Standard or custom finishes.
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
Yes 2 dB could be problematic in some instances. The 24 step switches with the S&B transformers wired to them were even more problematic since the first few steps were quite large increments, something like 6, 4, 4, and 3 dB steps before taper...
Longest Advisable Speaker Cable Runs?
Thanks for the correction Al. Need to use the calculator next time. Still quite reasonable for such a long run.
Music Reference RM9 - user comments please
I have had some people tell me they prefer the MkI versions of both the RM-9 and RM-10 because in their opinion they had more tube characteristics to their sound while the MkII versions sounded more like solid state. I think that is the knock on t...
Music Reference RM9 - user comments please
When I owned the RM-9 I was using Spendor 1/2e speakers. The RM-9 was the only tube amp I tried in my system that I liked with the Spendor's. Normally I have used solid state with them. At the time I owned the RM-9 I lived just a few miles from Ro...
Longest Advisable Speaker Cable Runs?
For Supra cables if you are in the US give these guys a call:Sjofn HiFiIf you click the link you will see that these cables are not that expensive. The set I bought was $26/meter per pair (S/Ply 3.4) but for $12/meter per pair you can get the Clas...
Noise eater
I have to agree parallel filters are quite beneficial and use them in my system. I have been using the ones offered by Alan Maher Designs for years. As a result I don't use a traditional power conditioner any longer.
Longest Advisable Speaker Cable Runs?
I think Al has summed it up best in his last post. Regarding the Supra cables I believe the ones I used were the Classic series, although I don't recall exactly. Yes the shielding helps but the other parameters Al mentioned are more important. As ...
Longest Advisable Speaker Cable Runs?
Look into Supra and OCOS cables. I have used both for runs of 18 ft. with no issues. The Supra can be purchased throughSjofn-HiFi (get the shielded set). The cost and return policy make trying these very low risk. Not sure who is selling OCOS thes...

Send it in to Roger and get the amp upgraded to MkII status. You already have a well designed amplifier to begin with and to better it you'd have to spend as much as an RM-200 MkII, maybe more if looking at other manufacturers as well. Upgrading t...
Cary v12 vs. Vac 80/80 vs. Music Reference RM-9
I've had/have amps from all 3 manufacturers and owned both the RM-9 and V12i. The V12 will give you that classic Cary house sound with the lush (some might say syrupy) midrange. It certainly is a very flexible amp as well. The RM-9, while a fine am...
Amp for lightspeed attenuator? = $1000 used
Be patient and wait for a used Music Reference RM-10 MkII to come up for sale. You won't be sorry.
Has anyone actually bought a Zesto Phono preamp?
We used this phono preamp in our room at THE SHOW Las Vegas. The rest of the system was our own Electra-Fidelity A3-500 300B monoblocks and OTL preamp, Fritz Carbon 7 Speakers, Resolution Audio Cantata, and Denon DP-3000 turntable completely refur...
Anyone HEARD the qol 'signal completion' device?
But with that ability, my question is then, why do so many recording's sound so crappy?.Simple, laziness or incompetence. That combined with a new generation that prefers lossy and/or compressed files where quality is not a priority, but convenien...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
The Atlas monoblock is 3.1V to full power so I'm assuming Bill has the stereo version which is 2.3V. That should pose no issues for the LSA IMO.The gain stage in the amp is tube driven. Output stage would appear to be solid state. The amp does dou...
