| Why no Spectral phono stage? It's been over 2 years since these posts. Any word on a Spectral Phono Preamp? I love my DMC-20 Phono Stage, and it's still one of the best I've heard, but I'd really like to upgrade to a stand-alone phono preamp that does that plus more. | |
| Ground loop related to VPI SDS/motor at 45 rpm? The pulley has two different places, but they're the same size, so can't be 33 and 45. It only runs at 33 by itself as far as I can tell. So, can't tell if it's the motor or the SDS. It could be the motor, the SDS, or their interaction. | |
| Ground loop related to VPI SDS/motor at 45 rpm? Is it on the black piece where the belt attaches? I don't see any small openings. There are two groves, either for the belt to fit in, and a flange just below them. The whole piece clamps down somehow on the motor's axle, but I don't wee any allen... | |
| Ground loop related to VPI SDS/motor at 45 rpm? I already tried the VPI motor oil. You just put a drop on the top of the spindle, right? I don't see where you tighten the black plastic pulley. | |
| Ground loop related to VPI SDS/motor at 45 rpm? I have since moved and am still getting a mid-frequency noise, but now it only seems to be coming from the motor itself, not being transmitted through the speakers. It's pretty loud. I don't have cones on the motor, just the original rubber feet. ... | |
| Moving VPI TNT, Wheaton Triplanar, Transfiguration Thanks for all the advice! I think I will use the 'Frogman method' for the table, and the more I think about it the more I realize I can't take any risk on the arm or cartridge. Therefore, as Atmasphere says "...There is no other way to do it wher... | |
| Fine tuning azimuth Jfrech said "I haven't touched it in over a year...".That's good to hear. Hopefully mine will be stable for a while. So far, so good. I also adjust VTA with each record.I did already remove my damping trough, and I thought it had a positive result... | |
| Fine tuning azimuth By 'the balance is lost' I mean one side is typically clearer and slightly higher amplitude than the other, and it depends upon on a few degrees of change in the azimuth. It can be either the left or right, with one or the other sounding nearly pe... | |
| Adele cd...bad mix/recording I too was highly disappointed in Adele's '21' recording on vinyl. It's too bad, because this is just the type of artist/music I would have expected to sound incredible on my system. I still enjoy her music, but it sounds better on my iPod. Big dis... | |
| Ground loop related to VPI SDS/motor at 45 rpm? It's a hum or low buzz coming through the speakers...sounds like a ground loop to me. It only happens when I put the stylus on the record (and only when it's moving at 45 rpm). I suppose I could connect the pre-amp outputs to my oscilloscope to pr... | |
| Optimizing TNT, Triplanar, Transfiguration Temper It's hard to remember, and unfortunately (or fortunately for me financially) I traded it in, so I can't do a direct comparison. But, the biggest differences I note are: it's not as laid back as the temper and maybe not quite as silky smooth, but a... | |
| Optimizing TNT, Triplanar, Transfiguration Temper Update: So far very satisfied with TNT, Triplanar, Transfiguration Phoenix. The Phoenix has opened up a lot with break in. I don't have the complaints I had before of lack of transient response, and things overall seem more stable. I also moved th... | |
| Optimizing TNT, Triplanar, Transfiguration Temper Correction: 'I just changed the cartridge loading from 100 to 800 ohms...' (not 300 ohms). After listening several hours, the improvement persists. With the exception of my preamp still giving me problems intermittently, I can say that I have very... | |
| Optimizing TNT, Triplanar, Transfiguration Temper I just changed the cartridge loading from 100 to 300 ohms, and my previous complaints about the details lacking, over-emphasis of the primary vocals, etc. seem to have disappeared. I guess I was over-damping the Phoenix with the same load that wor... | |
| Optimizing TNT, Triplanar, Transfiguration Temper At this point, I don't have an easy way to swap the cartridges back and forth, but I am extremely familiar with the Temper Supreme sound and am getting a feel for the Phoenix. If I get up enough interest/desire to switch back to the TS, I'll let y... |
