Playback Designs
As a DAC, I think the DSD DAC on the Playback and EMM Labs are better than even the PCM1704s on the Ayons. But the Ayon CD5S as a combined unit with a tube preamp is quite special. So when I compared the EMM XDS1/MPS5 with an Audio Research Refere...
Anyone has heard the Bel Canto REFLink Asynchronou
You bought the CD3T? Have you tried it with the DAC3.5VBII?
Hi-end sound from iTunes running on MacPro
I recommend Audirvana Plus instead of Pure Music. It's heck of a lot cheaper and sounds IMHO very good, better than 1.86 of Pure Music. IMHO Audirvana v11 beta that I am using with Direct and Integer mode in Mountain Lion is superior to the other ...

External HD Changing the quality of the sound?
Yeap. BitPerfect (click on the little logo on the top right of the menu bar. Select Preferences. You can adjust the size of the cache obviously limited by the RAM installed but RAM is cheap these days. Our old 2011 iMac already had 4x4GB RAM
External HD Changing the quality of the sound?
I too use iTunes. But the Mac version is better integrated with the OS from what I understand than the PC version and it is a great way to organize album meta data and playlist. I just organize them once and it works for my music servers and iOS/i...
External HD Changing the quality of the sound?
Oh, if you are using a USB connection on your DAC, use a FW or Thunderbolt drive. If you are using a FW-SPDIF connection, use a USB DAC.

On a whim, I dug out the Wavelink HS box and hooked my MBA to the USB port and gave the Ayon's PCM1704UK DAC a whirl. Still sounds pretty good even if I had to use a cheap-ish NuForce impulse USB cable (only one I had that was long enough.
External HD Changing the quality of the sound?
a. Use a SSD for the main OSb. OK to use an external drive for musicc. use a music player software that does memory cache-ing
Anyone has heard the Bel Canto REFLink Asynchronou
Bel Canto has 3 new USB Link devices. All 3 are asynchronous USB vs synchronous on yr DAC2.5 And I feel any of the 3 should work with your DAC2.5 to provide an upgrade in SQ.FWIW, I have found big differences going from synchronous to async USB de...
Anyone has heard the Bel Canto REFLink Asynchronou
The REF Link is a USB-SPDIF converter. A smaller/less featured USB-SPDIF converter is built into the DAC2.5The external uLink mLink and REFLink provide some form of isolation of the noisy computer signals from the DAC itself. One end plugs into th...
SACD vs Analog
FWIW, my Project RPM10.1 with Sumiko BB and Bel Canto Phono3 seriously outperforms my EMM Labs XDS1. It's that scary :)Depending on your tastes, you might also want to consider the VPI Classic. I heard the original with the JMW 10.5" arm which has...
How to introduce computer audio to my system?
I use a single HDD (no RAID) for my main music library but use a RAID 6 NAS to back up the files. ps even RAID is not infallible especially for most SOHO systems so if you are really being pedantic, you will need replication as well.
