Stringreen,Great thread. Hope the new home is all you hoped. Your results map closely to our experiences using a TriPlanar/UNIverse and Cello's Graham 2.2/UNIverse. As SirSpeedy first reported and we heard, the Graham unipivots also benefit from v...
Applying Gruv-Glide w/ Rega P3-24
In theory you'll shorten the life of your drive belt in tiny and incremental amounts, but aside from that I wouldn't worry about damage to the Rega - as long as you use light pressure. I'd be more worried about applying gunk to your records. Shoul...
Turntable speed measurements for speed accuracy?
What is widely done and extremely misleading, is to report the accuracy of the chip used. This information is provided by the manufacturer of the chip and really has no correlation with the turntable's actual speed accuracy.Agreed. There's some co...
low tracking force cartridge recommendations?
Check out this thread for some thoughtful MM cartridge recommendations by one of Audiogon's most experienced members.
What knot for string to drive platter?
A fly fisherman's blood knot works better than a square knot. A blood knot won't slip and it makes a long, smooth join, so there's less "bump" when it goes 'round the motor pulley.Search the info on the Teres site. There's a "how to tie" buried th...
Loricraft Record Cleaning
I also understand that as of this month all units will have a bidirectional motor built in. Is this used just for the scrubbing phase, or does it come into play during the drying phase as well? Neither! ;-)Loricraft added a bidirectional motor to ...
Loricraft Record Cleaning
I suppose one could always just advance the thread a tiny bit manually as the arm sweeps across the LP.Not really. The suction keeps the thread pinned between record surface and vacuum nipple, so if you untwist the spool to generate a little slack...
Loricraft Record Cleaning
Hi Jazdoc,Glad that helped, another tip my scientist/engineer partner learned from his dad, a master machinist. Please don't get all these tweaks confused. Vaseline + TriPlanar = Trouble! The %$*@@! dealer who used my TP as a demo forgot to empty ...
Loricraft Record Cleaning
Even simpler than a clamp: just put a light coating of Vaseline on the fitting before sliding the hose on. That will stop all vacuum leaks.
Thinking of selling my Teres
Joe,It's great to see you back, even with a tough question. I vote with the others who say keep the table, at least until you're sure you've found something better. There's too much of Joe in it to let it go without a good reason. If it'll help let...
Tracking Troubles--Upgrade or Setup?
It could indeed be clipping. I've heard it with quite a few phono stages and I know Rushton has too. Just as with a power amp or any amp, dynamic peaks cause phono stage problems if the power supplies can't provide enough instantaneous current to ...
DRT XV1s Vs Orpheus Vs Shelter Harmony Vs 47 Labs
Timmy,I didn't understand your comment so I re-read my post, and I still don't understand your comment. Help me out here... My one use of the word "best" was in a doubly qualified sentence, limited to the OP's particular list of cartridges and als...
Set up for ZU103 cart and K&K SUT
Great post by Jbaxley. One minor correction/suggestion: if inserting resistors reduces gain too much, it would be easier and more effective to switch the GCPH to a higher gain setting than to open up the SUT's and change taps. He can choose 42, 48...
Set up for ZU103 cart and K&K SUT
First Q: why use a stepup tranny at all? The GPCH has 60db of gain at its highest (unbalanced) setting, which should be adequate for a 103. You would experiment with its 100, 500 and 1K impedance settings to see which gives you the flattest respon...
DRT XV1s Vs Orpheus Vs Shelter Harmony Vs 47 Labs
I agree with the above responses re: the Jubilee. The OP's rig and phono stage are worthy of a much better cartridge. I had a friend's Jubilee in our system for nearly a month, on and off (mostly off!). Not fair putting it up against our UNIverse,...
