DIY Balanced Cables
Yep, I am talking about balanced interconnects, I only mentioned my experience with speaker wires as an aside. As a starting point, I am following the recipe proposed by Jadem6 mentioned in my original post. The feedback I am getting seems to agree...
DIY Balanced Cables
Ckoffend,I ran them about 1 1/2" apart spaced by small blocks of wood every foot or so. They spacing remained pretty even and they were off the floor and away from most other wires and electronics. My speaker cables are 12' long due to the setup i...
Wyred 4 Sound Dac1 vs. Dac2
hey thanks for the follow up. Just so I can calibrate this to my experience, do you mind describing the rest of your system? I am also interested in what other DACs you have heard for comparison. With 30 years, you probably have a lot of listening...
Review: Green Mountain Audio Eos vs Callisto Monitor
You should give them a listen then for sure - you are welcome to come hear mine if you are in the bay area. I understand this is a subjective experience, but for my ears, they are the most accurate and true to instrument timbre and timing. Like mo...
Review: Green Mountain Audio Eos vs Callisto Monitor
My EOS are no longer for sale, same advice! - Roy has agreed to upgrade them (apparently he doesn't like to do this because it is not cost effective and destroys a lot of useful parts). I will them for a few more weeks and will acclimate to them s...
Review: Green Mountain Audio Eos vs Callisto Monitor
I went from Europas to Callistos and then to EOS. Each has been a step up in performance (and cost). The Callistos provide a big improvement in bass over the Europas. In my opinion, the EOS were a big step up over the Callistos as described in the...
Wyred 4 Sound Dac1 vs. Dac2
I recommend you check out the forums here and on the computer audiophile site and start reading the many threads on DAC's and transports. The answers to your questions are already covered.
Review: Green Mountain Audio Eos vs Callisto Monitor
I only buy GMA speakers and have owned Europas, Callistos and EOS - My goal was to the inform owners of older models how much I enjoyed upgrading to the EOS. Thanks for your feedback.
Wyred 4 Sound Dac1 vs. Dac2
The Ayre is now about $1400 more and used are getting near new price. Check out Computeraudiophile.com for some comparisons and lot's of reviews of the w4s. There are some comments indicating the bass definition of the QB-9 leaves some wanting mor...
Wyred 4 Sound Dac1 vs. Dac2
I went right to the source and asked w4s about the diffence in sonic quality with async USB. They acknowledge that the DAC-1 will not sound as good as the DAC-2 without the upgrading the CAPS ($50) and upgrading to async USB ($250). Since that is ...
Wyred 4 Sound Dac1 vs. Dac2
Roscoeiii- your comment about the DAC1 not having Async USB seems really important. This is what Gordon Rankin and Ayre having been touting as the major source of improvement. So unless the DAC chip itself is impervious to jitter, it seems as thou...
asynchronous USB dac or jitter reducing device
FYI, The EMU has an async USB interface that reduces jitter and compares favorably with other expensive USB DACS I have listened to.
asynchronous USB dac or jitter reducing device
Try an EMU 0404 - with balanced outputs - $185 does the job, sounds great. Yes, audiophiles will not like the plastic case but it works.
Ayre QB-9 USB DAC
Drubin - To clarify, CD playback went through the Monarchy tube DAC, Computer went through the QB-9. My preference was the QB-9 with computer playback. I don't do rapid switching, rather, I listen to short passages of music (45 to 60 seconds) and ...
Ayre QB-9 USB DAC
Just borrowed a QB-9 from my dealer. I am doing side by side comparison with my current DAC - My current system is:Ayre AX-7eGreen Mountain Calisto speakers w/tweaked paradigm subwoofer.Monarchy Tube DAC with NOS Amperex tubes.Monarchy DIP with 96...
