Whats wrong with short cables?
Sean, thanks for pointing to the AA thread. I have a set of your preferred cables sitting around, which I happened to stick in the system (between Pass 150 and Thiel 2.4) the other night. No Zoebel networks, however. Sound was disappointing, but m...
I auditioned SACD today
The sonic improvements of hi-rez are not likely to compel the masses to make a switch. But the multi-channel afforded by the format may.
Thiel speakers... one more try
Just the other day, I listened to a Robert Rich CD on my Thiel 2.4's. Robert Rich is "space" music (e.g., the TAS Hearts of Space CD from some years back). It sounded incredible! Time and phase coherence resolves the, er, space in an extraordinary...
Speakers for low level listening
Steve (audioengr), what do mean by a low-impedance amp?
Linestage v. Preamp
Wouldn't a buffered preamp without gain still qualify as active? I'm thinking about the top model from Placette, which has no gain but is not, unlike the other models in the line, called "passive".
Question for Rowland aficionados
Interesting. Sounds like JRDG took the ICE engine, dressed it up Rowland style, and that's about it. Not much added value. Am I right?Which other manufacturers are using the ICE modules?
Question for Rowland aficionados
Hmmm...that's an interesting suggestion. I may do what you propose.
Thiel CS2.3 vs 2.4 -- my 2 cents
I was wondering about MIT. Have never tried it except for some modest ICs many years ago. It's always seemed prohibitively $$$ for the good stuff. (Waitaminute, I own Valhalla...)
Thiel CS2.3 vs 2.4 -- my 2 cents
Sdecker: excellent write-up. Very thoughtful of you to share your experience with us. Thanks.I bought a used pair of 2.4's about 3 months ago. My first Thiels except that I had a pair of 1.6's in the house on loan for a few months. I liked the 1.6...
tube upgrade for first sound
The only upgrade I have tried is the Siemens Gold Pin 7308, which sounds superb to me. It's what Emmanuel Go of First Sound recommended to me and is definitely one to try if you can find it. But they are hard to find and expensive, so I'd be very ...
Steely Dan's Aja
Tireguy, that's Gaucho.Aside: I played the hell out of Aja when it first came out. When Gaucho was released, despite a lot of good songs, I was bothered by the way it sounded. It was detailed and spectacular in many ways, but seemed sterile and he...
Omnidirectional speakers. The future?
Doesn't Bang & Olufsen have something new in this area? The little buzz I've heard suggests it is legit audiophile stuff, not standard B&O fare.I would love to hear a pair of Shahinians sometime, but you have to go to Long Island to do so.
First Sound Presence Deluxe Mk. II with Cary V-12i
I can certainly recommend the First Sound preamp, but can not speal to the combination you are considering.
Power Cords Snake Oil ??
Has anyone listened to Corona's Sahuaro cables? I'm curious, is he onto something?
Question for Rowland aficionados
Thank you very much!
