"Non Inductive" resistors.
Herman...Two of those in parallel (for 4 ohms) would have a 40 watt rating! I really was thinking in terms of a simple wirewound 4 ohm 10 watt costing 39 cents each. (Parts Express, but I don't want to pay shipping on this!)I really was expecting ...
"Non Inductive" resistors.
Aball...Thanks. That's what I thought.
Speaker w/F.R. 100hz & Receiver Bass crossover
Diagonal? I'm not so sure. Doesn't the sound wave bounce back and forth between parallel surfaces? Hence recording studios where nothing is parallel to anything else.
Capacitor-less amps
Aball...Yep. I don't know what I was thinking. I guess that the point I was making is that the PS capacitors are such huge values, compared with coupling capacitors, that they would look like a short circuit to an audio signal.

Didactically...Sorry about that. But you did make yourself such a tempting target. It made my day :-)Feel free to post any damn fool idea that you might have. You will fit right in!
Capacitor-less amps
John_tracy...Get real! If power supply capacitors were in the signal path the amp's HF rolloff would be about 0.0001 Hz!
How to match preamp gain to amp sensitivity?
If all you want to do is match the preamp gain to the amp sensitivity you don't need a continuous control like a pot (may affect audio quality) or a stepped attenuator (expensive). All you need is a couple of resistors (dividing network). Use some...
Speaker w/F.R. 100hz & Receiver Bass crossover
Didactically...I think we are supposed to be talking about the main speakers of a setup using a subwoofer (or two). In this context a spec of 80 Hz vs 100 Hz is not a big deal, especially because the pricing structure of these two speakers from th...
Sound Proof???
Get new neighbors.
Speaker w/F.R. 100hz & Receiver Bass crossover
Both the subwoofer, and the main speakers will produce significant sound beyond their respective crossover points. (The cutoff is gradual). The different LF response specs may just reflect different people writing the spec, and anyway, the differe...
Equalizers anyone?
My experience with equalizers (none as sophisticated as those mentioned above) is that they can alter (improve) the sound of recordings, and change a speaker's frequency response, but room resonances stubornly persist, regardless of how you push t...
Capacitor-less amps
A DC-coupled amp is really a DC power supply with analog command input, and a high slew rate. In fact, many years ago a power supply manufacturer demonstrated his product at a trade show by playing music through it. Subsequently, some audio amp ma...
Capacitor-less amps
Yes. It is also possible to make a crossover for the speaker where the tweeter has no capacitor in series with it. It uses an inductor across the tweeter. The drawback is that such a crossover wastes a lot of power in a resistor needed to avoid a ...
First time for this, opinions please.
Replacing the power cord while the unit is ON is no different than having the AC power go out (as happens from time to time). If the unit is damaged by such an event, it's a lousy design.
Is extremely accurate "VTA" adjustment necessary?
Tbg...True...if you run one phono pickup channel with inverted polarity you need to invert other inputs of that channel. I did it with electronics modification, but you could also use a simple "knife type" switch in the speaker circuit. There are ...
