Manufacturer inspection cost
Particularly tube amps degrade very gradually, so that it is difficult for the user, familiar with the sound, to determine when this degradation becomes serious. Objective measurements, which the manufacturer is best qualified to do, are therefore...
Is extremely accurate "VTA" adjustment necessary?
Having long since gone to a linear tracking arm, it is some time since I had to make all those critical adjustments. However, for most pickup adjustments, the technique of inverting one channel, AT THE PICKUP BY REVERSING WIRES OF ONE CHANNEL, is ...
Is Spectron Audio "Dead or Alive"?
Audioengr...No, not yet. I have three zr1600 driving the front speakers of a multichannel setup. Each CarverPro serves a MG1.6 and its associated subwoofer.I might be interested in a mod to one channel of each amp, to be used for the MG1.6.I have ...
Is extremely accurate "VTA" adjustment necessary?
With any pivoting arm, the effect of azimuth variation and skating force variation over the playing area of an LP will swamp out any effect of VTA variation between LPs. If you are serious about vinyl, get a linear tracking arm.
bridging tube amps for mono
Blakeaudio...One way to think about why the amp sees lower impedance is...when operating normally (not bridged) the amp is driving current through the speaker to ground. However, when bridged, the amp is trying to drive current, not just to ground...
bridging tube amps for mono
Con...The amps will see a low impedance load, which tube amps are not good at. For example: if the speaker is 4 ohms you ought to be using 2 ohm outputs which most amps don't have.I once modified a stereo tube amp so that it inverted one channel, ...
What do I look for in used records?
The marketing slogans reflected certain technical features, although the marketing aspect was probably most important. For example: "Dynagroove" (RCA) meant that the signal had been processed so as to compensate for compliance of the vinyl.
Tube Amp for Magnepan 3.6 - Rogue Zeus/VTL-MB450
And furthermore...I still think that a much simpler mod (that what EA and RAM are doing) would be almost as good. Parts...$200. Labor...$200. Profit...$300. Total cost $700. Maybe I will play around with one of my amps after all.
Tube Amp for Magnepan 3.6 - Rogue Zeus/VTL-MB450
Rooze...If I were you (which I am not) and I needed to spend some more money, I would Mod one of my Carver amps, buy a Marchand Electronics crossover, and biamp my Maggies, with the Mod amp on top. You already have the Carver amp, so the cost is $...
Tube Amp for Magnepan 3.6 - Rogue Zeus/VTL-MB450
Rooze,,,A Mod to the Carver will cost a lot less than the VTL 450. I would be most interested in more info on zr1600 mods. I really think that a simple inexpensive mod to bupass of all the low level signal processing circuitry, and upgrade of a co...
Tube Amp for Magnepan 3.6 - Rogue Zeus/VTL-MB450
Rooze...The bridged zr1600 is good for 1600 watts into 4 ohms, and biwire makes no difference. However, neither the Carver or the Krell is delivering anything like this power. If it did, I don't know if your ears or your speakers would blow out fir...
Ported, Sealed or Transmission Line
Trelja...Not only "to each his own" but "to each kind of music its own". I agree that for heavy duty organ music, and the like, Klipshorns will beat out any electrostatics. And for a solo violin piece, my little B&W monitors are great.
Bi-amping with no pre-outs
Marakanetz...I don't know what you mean by the power amp being "disconnected". Of course it is until you feed a signal back in.Dcconners...If you just want a full range signal to feed into a subwoofer amp that has its own low pass filter, a tap of...
Bi-amping with no pre-outs
Your receiver has a signal like a preamp output, which is the input to its power amp. For someone with electronic repair skills, it would probably be a minor job to bring this signal out on a pair of rca jacks, and to provide rca jacks for the sig...
Dayton titantic sub owners....
Phasecorrect...Get ready for a broadside from Sean!I have 12 inch Titanic drivers, combined with 15 inch JBL drivers in my SW systems. The Titanics do the job for me, but my job is a bit "different"...to "tune" the 7.5 cubic ft enclosures which ho...
