Turntable or go into SACD, Simon Yorke vs EMM Lab
Wait on the SACD. The 'BluRay" stuff is around the corner and who know whom, or what will happen with all that.I bought a Sony SCD777Es for the Redbook CD play.. just as a 'last CD player I will ever buy' strategy. Now, I see the mess coming with a...
Sliding down the 78 rpm slippery slope....help
"Steel" needles?Ha hah ha..They are good for a few plays per needle. They are terrible and would wear out your precious 78s really fast.If you want a toy, go for it. If you want to play archival copies of 78 that are worth saving, or worth money, ...
Can someone explain how this could happen?
The unit is possessed!Get a good exorcist...Or, you wre hypnotized and don't know it.Although Karaoki type machines DO remove the vocal band rather well from music. That could explain at least 1/2 of your mystery.
FedEx Shipping Damage
FedEx ground is not FedEx Air at all. Ground is a separate company that FedEx Air purchased whole. The FedEx Ground is about as careless as UPS Ground.Either way you take a risk shipping.
Newbie Question: Why do you need a PreAmp?
?? Your 'source' would have standard and variable outputs.Use the standard ones from the source Cd player for the preamp. Every Cd player etc that I have ever seen that has variable outputs ALSO has standard line level outputs. And the output from ...
Newbie Question: Why do you need a PreAmp?
Preamp originally served several purposes, it was for having multiple sources, and for the Phono section, and to have tone controls and a tape loop.Once the Phono section, and the tone controls were dropped the preamp was mostly a glorified source...
What sub do "U" use ?
None. Don't need one, don't want one.I have just Maggie IIb's and live in an apartment.I am not interested in forcing my neighbors to listen to my bass line.... And I do not tolerate the other tenants who think it is their God-given right to annoy...
Why would anyone want to listen to a harpsichord?
Listen to Erroll Garner (Jazz pianist) play several different harpsichords on "Erroll Garner in Paris"Some of those sounds I bet they never heard before!
SACD - Dying already?
Ipersonally think SACD and DVD-A are going to fade as soon as the "BluRay" or whatever they plan on calling the next step in higher density media palyback.IF the group can come up with a really solid ONE KIND OF FORMAT... The multiple formats just...
smoke from a pre-amp. why?
Capacitor failure. Juice comes out of the capacitor, spills on something hot and SMOKE. Once the cap is dead, the product usually stops working.Capacitors can fail any old time. Usually they last a long, long time... but sometimes, just POOF!
What's the chances of this Let me explain :
"In set up.." During setup cover the eye in the Krell with a small card to block it.If this ONLY happens in setup mode, I would think it is hardly an everyday issue. It is annoying but of the huge number of components with remote features I am supr...

Am I really smart or really stupid?
Neither smart nor stupid, just cheap. You can get some great phono pre's for $200 to $400.But if it is working for you, go for it.
To Hot to Handle?
I have a small solid state amp (Forte' 4a) that runs pretty warm, and I leave it on all the time. I have air, but the thought of trying to deal with a real 'heater' amp in the Summer with no air is a challenge. The heat it produces will be an issu...
