Tweeter Capacitor Upgrade (Coincident PREs)
Hey cal,Mundorf Supreme has a particular house sound. Scintillating to over-saturated color. Magico uses them extensively, as does the top end B&W. Otherwise, if you want something more natural and open, Clarity CMR to Jupiter Copper foil is t...
Magicos are chesty
The Magico's I've heard are flat/neutral and so are really dependent on what source and amplification are ahead of them, like most revealing speakers. To my taste they sound "good" but lack a personality .. @chrisoshea do you remember what seri...
Coaxial Ribbon Midrange/tweeter - Can a small midrange ribbon actually do midrange well?
How many times must I answer the same question? Not at all. I meant "planar" in the generic sense, including ribbon, planar magnetic or even ESLs, in that the radiating surface describes a plane instead of a cone. So, that was what I meant original...
Using an external word clock with Esoteric cd/sacd players
So, the answer is, this depends. Generally, you want an internal clock on the Esoteric because, being closest to the spinning disc, and DAC, an internal clock has the shortest trace route, and will have the best chance at having a great signal. Th...

Bright or Dim?
Could be a power line noise issue, dimmers are notoriously bad. :)
correct order of connecting a preamplifier, amplifier, and speakers
The order does not matter when wiring. Turn on is always amp last.
Coaxial Ribbon Midrange/tweeter - Can a small midrange ribbon actually do midrange well?
Erik, I assume you meant to say "ribbon" midrange. As you know, there are many planar midrange drivers---the other Eric (with the inferior spelling ;-) . @bdp24 Not at all. I meant "planar" in the generic sense, including ribbon, planar magnetic o...
Digital improvements possible?
Tidal doesn't really take that much bandwidth in modern terms, but if you are relying on Wifi, and are in a congested area (apartment bldg) that is more likely to be a problem.
Digital improvements possible?
The Stockholm 2 does 24/192kHz just fine, so with the right app you should be able to decode MQA in the Mac and play it back, as well as most offerings from hi rez stores (except DSD). What you don't mention are speakers or headphones. You should ...
Whats playing on your system today?

How is 'stereo' created by just one single stylus?
Quick answer: The stylus moves up and down but also side to side. So the two coils at the end are excited differently.
Coaxial Ribbon Midrange/tweeter - Can a small midrange ribbon actually do midrange well?
Should add, this is not the first time a planar midrange has been envisioned.  The most famous are the Infinity and Genesis towers.
Coaxial Ribbon Midrange/tweeter - Can a small midrange ribbon actually do midrange well?
Interesting. I'd say there's a lot to consider. This is a rather large ribbon. The larger the surface area, the less it must move to achieve a given sound pressure. I will say that the masurements from the C8 LTS are encouraging. The impulse and w...
How important is it for you to attain a holographic image?
Another recent example was the McIntosh XR50. Great transparency, and imaging when vocals weren’t rattling the driver frame. :) Of course, having it all is ideal, but I have so far seen frequency response and imaging to be independent features in ...
