Why Power Cables Affect Sound
I remember reading an article where John Curl said he would spec a certain grade of components, for a piece of Parasound audio equipment he designed, only to be overruled the owners of the company saying it would make the price of the piece o...
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
If you visit the Cable Asylum forum you can read where many members build their own DIY power cords. You don't have to spend a fortune for a good power cord.@jea45I think if you care, this is a great idea! :) I move stuff around far too often. ...
Brand Signature
Making sure there is a perceived difference in value between product ranges is pretty important to manufacturers. Why should you pay $10K for the top of the line if it sounds just like the $100 version? Yes, manufacturers often have a certain soun...
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
I think the argument can be made that the better a piece of gear’s power supply, the less sensitive it will be to power issues. The argument can also be made that power cables may not be very cost effective. My cost-effective balance is to ignore ...
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
@areed622 This is why I love series mode surge protectors. Only one's I know of that work down in the audible range, around 3 kHz.And yes, it is useful to keep noisy things like that "outside" of your cleaned up power or you will pollute it. @jea...
Magicos are chesty
Don't know about any of that... They were marvelous in a small room, very close to the back wall, with the smallest Spectral. I was also told that they sound magic with the Octave V110 integrated (110 W), albeit very different sound from the ...
Magicos are chesty
I guess my point is that the S1, being small footprint speakers, you'd kind of expect to want to use them in a small space, with something like a 60W tube or class-A integrated. Essentially what we might call an intimate system.IMHO, this wouldn't...
Magicos are chesty
I think their efficiency is around 83 dB, no? Because they have a very wide dispersion. To make them sound their best they need just as much room as much larger speakers.
Magicos are chesty
@mheinzeHonestly, there was a lot I liked more about the S1 than the S3.The S1, except for the congestion noted in my original post, has a glass smooth midrange to treble, and truly impressive dynamic range along with a very wide listening angle. ...

Please explain how the noise of the switching of a full wave rectifier in a power supply can pass back through the primary winding of the power transformer and through the power cord and end up on the AC mains. Hi @jea48 ,I'm not making the cla...
Magicos are chesty
@shadorne I just realized I misread this: My guess is you are hearing the sound of the polypropylene plastic bucket that houses the midrange. My apologies, I thought you meant the driver basket. I had forgotten all about the bucket! Yes, but as @s...
Magicos are chesty
Hey @sciencecop LOL, I suggest you call up Magico and offer your help... Oh no, I am 100% sure they are choosing their tonal balance carefully. If I hacked it would be to see if I could make the S line sound like the M line. :) To suggest that M...
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
The electrons in a power cable are like a train with each electron acting as a train car. When a treble note is played, for example, the small gauge wires can react quickly because that “train” has much less mass than a large gauge conductor. So, ...
Suddenly HMMMMM
I don't remember my sub humming before Well, as you play more music, the sub gets smarter and starts to remember the songs it likes. Ahahahaha. Sorry. but with subamp connected off...a lower amount, but switched on a louder one. What does that ...
Magicos are chesty
More specifically you should say Magico S series speakers are chesty @folkfreak I defer to your experience. It's true, I've only really heard the S series, but your progression and description sounds like a well planned product development strateg...
