TT suggestions for a newbie.
Dual turntables are back on the market. Some having the features you desire and in an around the price. Quest for Sound and I think Audio Advisor carry them. Happy hunting.
McIntosh MA-7000 vs. MA-2275
What size room will your system be in as that will be a factor in direction of speaker and amp. Pending on the room use, life style issues play a bigger roll. Having said that, if you can put up with the minor fuss of tubes, I would go with MA 227...
Best Surround Reciever Under $500 used
Give of thought to Cambridge Audio.
Von Schweikert mentioned on TV
It is really cool, always enjoy seeing gear in the movies. Many..many years ago in the movie Arthur with Dudley Moore they had a pair of bose 901's and believe some Carver amps. Thanks for sharing the movie clip.
Droplet CD Player: Contacting Consonance
Don't know where you purchased your unit, but Quest for Sound in Bensalem Pa, would be a good place to contact. Stephen Monte is a great guy and may be able to help with the repair. Good luck. Glen
Help with CD Player
Two players too consider in your price range. IMO. The SQ-12 from a store, Quest for Sound. Stephen is a great quy to deal with. I have this unit myself. And I have found some of the Cambridge Audio players to be quite nice. Alot of nice ones out ...
Fix My Preamp vs. Buy Phono Stage
Have to agree with Thorman. Some of the new phono preamps don't have to cost alot, but sound great, some have headphone inputs or can be hooked up to a computer should you want to convert Lp's to cd's.
Usher 6371 vs Von Schweikert VR4jr
One man's bread is another's poison, so trust your ears. Before I brought VSRJr4's, the Usher's were one of the speakers I auditioned. Nice but no Jr4's. Be it powered by tubes or SS, there was just magic in the music.
Stevie Wonder-As
Have to say amen too the greatness of Stevie. Seeing him perform on some of the past elections coverage has made me want to dig out of his old LPs as well. Happy listening.
reel to reel
Slipknot1, what a great link, enjoyed visting the site.
reel to reel
Reel to Reel most fun one can have going round and round. Above susgestions good, I would add Teac to your list.
Parasound vs B&K vs Acurus
Having a Acurus amp for some years, I find it quite good and on more neutral than anything. It lets your music come through as it came in. I also have a small zamp 3 amp from parasound. Connected to my VSA jr4's. they reveal perhaps a little more ...
Cheap SS phonostage
Cambridge 640P worth a look see. May want to consider the new NAD if you want to be able to transfer records into the computer.
Multi-zone or integrated amplifier?
You may want to check out the Parasound speaker selector. I have found their products to be quite good. Another option so far as an integrated, the McIntosh 6500, it has facility for two sets of speakers. Happy hunting.
sleeper tube integrateds suggestion wanted
You have some very good susgestions so far. Especially in the Cary and VTL. You may add the Rogue Integrated which I have heard. And a unit sold by Quest for Sound the SX 88. It is a 55 watt unit and can be had for far under your budget. It sings....
